FLYERS DOMINATE DRAGONS, 6-1, IN SPRING BREAK OPENER

HILTON HEAD, SC - The Dayton women's tennis team won its first of two matches Tuesday by defeating the Tiffin Dragons, 6-1. The contest was the opener of four matches in Hilton Head, S.C. during spring break. UD collected five singles wins and took all three doubles matches to improve to 2-12.

Junior Megan Gray paced the Flyers by blanking Teauana Long 6-0, 6-0 at #3 singles. Senior Kate Mellion tallied a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Kristen Gibson at #1, while junior Allysa Detroy stormed to her team-best eighth singles win of the spring by ousting Faith Greenawalk 6-1, 6-0 at #2.

Sophomore Nikki Dzubay and freshman Maggie Ernst were also victorious at #4 and #6 singles for Dayton.

Detroy and Mellion led the Flyers' charge in the doubles matches with a solid 8-2 showing at #1. Dzubay and sophomore Mackenzie Hoops paired up at #2 for an 8-6 victory, while Gray and sophomore Amanda O'Connell completed the sweep at #3, 8-2.

The Flyers are back in action this evening at 6 p.m. EST versus the Bucknell Bison.
