ROBERTS NAMED ATLANTIC 10 CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Feb. 17, 2008

University of Dayton senior guard Brian Roberts has been named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week for his efforts this week in games against Duquesne and Temple. Roberts averaged 22.5 points and four assists while knocking down eight of his 13 attempts from three-point range for the week.

He shared the weekly recognition with Xavier senior Josh Duncan.

He scored 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting in Dayton's 63-61 loss to Duquesne on Wednesday, and shot 7-of-11 from the field, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, for a game-high 23 points on Saturday in the Flyers' 77-66 win versus Temple.

The senior from Toledo St. John's High School moved from tenth to eighth in career scoring at UD during the week, and now has 1,791 points. He will be the first UD player to lead the team in scoring three straight seasons since All-American Jim Paxson did it 1978-79.

Roberts leads the Atlantic 10 with seven 20-point games in conference play. This is his third A-10 Player of the Week award of the season.

Roberts has scored in double figures in six of the last seven games, and has scored at least 10 points in a half 23 times in 2007-08. He leads Dayton in scoring (19.0), assists (3.7), minutes (34.2), 3-pt. FG's (2.8), 3-pt. FG% (.444, 69-153) and FT% (.874, 90-103). Roberts is in the top five of the A-10 in six statistical categories.

One of the top players in the country, Roberts is a finalist for four of the most prestigious college basketball awards in the country - the Los Angeles Athletic Club's John R. Wooden Award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Naismith Trophy, the Basketball Hall of Fame's Bob Cousy Award and the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.

Only Roberts and Virginia's Sean Singletary appear on all four lists.

The Flyers are now 17-7, and 5-6 in the Atlantic 10. UD is currently in ninth place in the league, but are just one-and-a-half games out of third in the tightly packed A-10. Dayton is at La Salle on Thursday, February 21, before returning home to take on league leader Xavier on Sunday, February 24. The Xavier game time is 2:00 p.m. ET. It is already a sellout, and will be televised nationally on CSTV.
