Flyer Fans, the 2008-09 University of Dayton sports season begins Friday, Aug. 22. Over the next two weeks UD volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer and football begin their regular season campaigns.

UD's fall sports season kicks off when the Flyer women's soccer team hosts the Indiana Hoosiers on Friday, Aug. 22 at Baujan Field. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Flyers return seven starters and 17 letterwinners from a UD team which posted an overall record of 13-4-4 and advanced to the A-10 tournament for the 11th consecutive season last year.
The Flyer men's soccer team opens its regular season at home on Friday, Aug. 29 against the Denver Pioneers at 8 p.m. ET in the Dayton Flyer Marriott Invitational. The Flyers finished the 2007 season with a 10-4-5 overall record and advanced to the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Championship, losing in a shootout to eventual NCAA Final four participant Massachusetts.
Last season UD volleyball won the Atlantic 10 Championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. New coach Kelly Sheffield's club is already receiving votes in the CBS College Sports AVCA Coaches Poll. UD is 29th in the first poll of 2008-09.
The Flyers look to repeat their success starting Aug. 29 at the Arizona State Sheraton Classic. Dayton's first home weekend at the Frericks Center takes place Sept. 5-6 in the Dayton Flyer Invitational as UD hosts Cleveland State, Northwestern and Towson.
Speaking of success last year, UD football not only went 11-1, but won the Pioneer Football League and FCS Mid-Major national championships.
With new head coach Rick Chamberlin at the helm, the Flyers open the 2008 regular season as a visiting team against Central State in the Marauders' "Dayton Classic IV" on Sunday, Aug. 31 beginning at 5 p.m. ET from Welcome Stadium. Dayton's home opener is Saturday, September 13 at 1 p.m. ET against 2007 FCS playoff team Fordham.
