FLYERS SWEPT BY ARIZONA STATE 3-0

TEMPE, Ariz. - The University of Dayton Flyers were swept by the Arizona State Sun Devils 3-0 (18-25,19-25,26-28) on Saturday to close out the ASU Sheraton Classic.

With the loss the Flyers are now 1-2 on the season while Arizona State moves to 2-1.

"We had a bear of a time trying to slow down Arizona State's outside hitters," head coach Kelly Sheffield said.

Tiffany Gaerke led the attack for UD with a .385 hitting percentage on Saturday. Gaerke was 12-of-26 from the floor with one solo block and two block assists for Dayton.

"Tiffany had a great match for us," Sheffield said, "She was aggressive and intelligent and this team really needs that from her." Chelsy Christoff led the Flyers with 12 digs on the day while senior Nicole Bateman added 11 digs to the defensive efforts.

Erin Schroeder garnered All-Tournament Honors for her role in setting the ball for Dayton. On Saturday Schroeder set 27 balls for the Flyers and added one service ace. Mandy Robbe and Valerie Akerhielm also added one service ace apiece for UD.

"It was really a competitive tournament and all four teams beat up on each other this weekend," Sheffield said, "We felt like we learned a lot about what we had to work on for the next week and we will get to it immediately."

The Flyers return to the friendly confines of the Frericks Center for their home opener in the Dayton Flyer Invitational on Friday, Sept. 5 against the Northwestern Wildcats at 7:00 pm. For the most up to date news and statistics visit www.DaytonFlyers.com.
