DAYTON, Ohio - Four University of Dayton women's soccer players earned second team CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 4 honors; Kathleen Beljan, Kelly Blumenschein, Emily Kenyon and Lauren MacCormick. The Flyers had more selections to the All-District 4 Teams than any other university.
Beljan, a sophomore defender from Hilliard, Ohio, carries a 3.73 GPA in chemical engineering. A freshman All-American last season, she has helped the Flyer defense tie a school record for shutouts with 13. UD also leads the nation in goals against average (0.26).
Blumenschein, a junior forward from Beavercreek, Ohio, earned second team all-district honors from CoSIDA for the second consecutive season. She has a 3.67 GPA in finance and entrepreneurship. A two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection, she has four goals and four assists for the Flyers this season.
Kenyon, a sophomore defensive midfielder from Canton, Ohio, holds a 3.96 GPA in her chemical engineering major. She is Dayton's Iron Woman, playing a team-high 1,724 minutes this season. She also scored her first collegiate goal in 2009.
MacCormick is a senior forward who carries a 3.51 GPA in pre-medicine. She is second on the team in goals (7), assists (5) and points (19), all single-season career highs. Last season she was a member of the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-East Region Team, and in 2007 was named to the all-Ohio Academic Second Team.
The District 4 teams are made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve, and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
The Dayton women's soccer team is 13-0-5 and one of two unbeaten teams in the country (the other is No.1 Stanford). The Flyers host Xavier Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. A win over the Musketeers would secure the regular season A-10 title for the Flyers, their first since 2004.
