CHICAGO - Junior Michael Rohana won again at No. 1 singles for the Flyers, but the University of Dayton men's tennis team was defeated, 6-1, on Monday by Illinois-Chicago on the road.
Rohana topped UIC's Sebastian Lystad, 6-3, 6-3, for his second win over an all-conference player in his last three matches at the top spot.
Lystad was First Team All-Horizon League a year ago. On Tuesday, March 31, Rohana had a three-set win over reigning Atlantic 10 Performer of the Year Doug Matthews of Xavier.
UD sophomore Bryce Warnock fell 7-6, 7-6 to nationally-ranked George Hudson at No.3 singles.
In doubles, the UD duo of Warnock and freshman Austin Wiegand picked up a win, defeating Dave Robare and Nate Kirk, 8-6, at No. 3.
The Flyers came close to stealing the doubles point, but junior Matt Sherman and sophomore Michael Koscielski dropped a nailbiter at No. 2, falling 9-8.
UD (6-15) plays its final road match on Tuesday against Valparaiso at 3 p.m. EST.
