PHILADELPHIA -
The University of Dayton Division of Athletics continued its long tradition of success in the classroom by placing 102 student-athletes on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Spring 2009 semester.
The A-10 Honor Roll, which was released Thursday by Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade, honors each student-athlete with a 3.5 grade-point average or higher during the Spring 2009 semester.
Dayton was third among the 14 Atlantic 10 Conference institutions in number of student-athletes recognized, despite sponsoring fewer sports than all but one school in the league. La Salle led the conference with118 student-athletes honored on the list. The Explorers sponsor 20 sports that compete in the A-10 compared to UD’s 14. Saint Louis edged out Dayton for second place with 104 on the Honor Roll. SLU has 16 sports that compete in the A-10.
There were a total of 1,164 student-athletes named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the Spring of 2009.
Success in the classroom is nothing new for UD student-athletes. The Flyers have had 37 Academic All-Americans in the last eight years and at least one Academic All-American for 25 straight years.
