July 2, 2009

DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton men's soccer player Alex Torda received his second preseason honor in as many days. The senior forward, who was recently named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Team for the second straight season, was tabbed 2009 Third Team Preseason All-America by College Soccer News today.

Torda, who in 2008 became the first UD player to ever be named a Hermann Trophy candidate, was one of 33 players in the nation selected to the 2009 College Soccer News Preseason All-America Teams.

A two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection, including First Team in 2007, Torda led the Flyers in scoring in 2007 and 2008. He was tabbed a 2008 NSCAA/adidas All-Mid Atlantic Region Second Team pick.

He was named to the prestigious 2008 NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-America Team, and was also a Second Team 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America selection.

Torda had a remarkable junior season, registering 10 goals and three assists. He was named to three All-Tournament teams in 2008, and excelled in Atlantic 10 matches, scoring a league-high seven goals and .78 goals per game in Conference-only games.

His stellar year coincided with one of the best seasons in Dayton men's soccer history. The Flyers, currently ranked No. 18 in the College Soccer News Preseason National Poll, posted a school-best 15-4-3 record, captured the Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.
