Men's Soccer Heading To St. Louis To Take On No. 21 SLU

Flyers and Billikens to Kickoff at 8 p.m. ET

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will head west today to take on No. 21 Saint Louis Saturday night. The Flyers and Billikens will square off Oct. 4 at SLU's Hermann Stadium at 8 p.m. ET.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (3-1-5, 2-0-1 A-10) enters Saturday's match in a tie with Fordham for first place in Atlantic 10 standings with seven points and is currently enjoying a four-match unbeaten streak. The Flyers' offense is led by senior Ethan Sassine with five goals (t-2nd A-10) and one assist for 11 points while five different players have recorded two assists. Senior goalkeeper Gavin Krenecki has worked eight of the Flyers' nine games in goal this season and has tallied 25 saves with a 0.50 GAA (2nd A-10) and an .862 save percentage (1st A-10). 

SCOUTING NO. 21 SAINT LOUIS
Saint Louis (5-2-3, 2-0-0) also has two wins in league action, including its 2-1 victory over visiting La Salle on Saturday during Homecoming Weekend. Theo Franca has scored three goals for the Billikens while a total of five players have gotten off double-digit shots. Jeremi Abonnel has put in all 900 minutes between the posts for SLU and he has collected 25 saves and carries a 0.70 GAA.

SERIES STUFF
Saint Louis Leads, 6-2-1
The Flyers and Billikens last met on Nov. 17, 2024 at Baujan Field in the finals of the Atlantic 10 Championship. UD claimed its second-consecutive A-10 Tourney Title with its 3-0 shutout of SLU.

LAST TIME OUT
Four different Flyers scored in Dayton's 4-2 win over visiting Davidson last Saturday night, including graduate student Paul Yeboah and junior Braden Seel who each scored their first goal of the season. Sophomore Dren Dobruna passed out two assists, his first two assists as a Flyer, and senior goalkeeper Gavin Krenecki claimed his third win of the season.

RPI RANKINGS
In the NCAA's most recent Rating Percentage Index (RPI) through games on Oct. 2, Dayton ranked 125th according to NCAA.com. Saint Louis came in at 15.

• Dennis Currier is in his 21st season as head coach of the Flyers in 2025. His record at Dayton is 196-124-66 (.594) and his career win-loss mark sits at 385-173-78 (.667) over a total of 33 seasons. Currier has tallied the program's most wins (197) and most winning seasons (13).
• On Sept. 15, Farouq Ogundare picked up his first career Atlantic 10 weekly award after being named the league's Rookie of the Week. Following the first week of the season, three Flyers were recognized by the A-10. Ethan Sassine was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week, Gavin Krenecki garnered Defensive Player of the Week accolades and Mikkel Madsen secured the Rookie of the Week honor on Aug. 25.
• Five Flyers were named to the 2025 Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Team: Andrew Armstrong, Martin Bakken, Miles Bonham, Ethan Sassine and Paul Yeboah.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title four times (1998, 2000, 2009, 2020). The Flyers have captured the A-10 Championship title six times (1997, 1998, 2008, 2015, 2023, 2024) resulting in six appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Over 23 appearances in the A-10 Tournament, UD has tallied a 23-11-5 record in the conference postseason championship, reaching the title match nine times.
• The Flyers finished the 2024 season with a 14-3-3 overall record and a 5-1-2 conference mark, finishing in second place in regular-season play. 

UP NEXT
Dayton is set for a mid-week match-up against Fordham on Wednesday, Oct. 8 in The Bronx. The Flyers and Rams will get underway at 7 p.m. at Jack Coffey Field on Fordham's campus and admission is free.
