NEW YORK - A balanced scoring attack helped the University of Dayton Flyers pick up a 74-58 victory over the Fordham Rams at Madison Square Garden.
Luke Fabrizius scored 13 points, Chris Johnson scored 10 while Chris Wright added 12 points, eight rebounds and slammed home four alley-oop dunks.
With the win, the Flyers improve to 13-3 overall and 2-0 in the Atlantic 10. UD has won 11 of its last 12.
Speaking of victories, Dayton has won 38 games at Madison Square Garden, tied with Duke for the most among teams outside of the New York metropolitan area. It was Dayton's first appearance since 1991 at the Garden.
Dayton took control with an 11-0 run that gave it a 52-39 lead. The middle two field goals of the run were dunks by Wright off alley-oop passes from London Warren. Fabrizius closed the run with a 3-pointer.
Prior to that run, Fordham battled back and took the lead early in the second half 36-35 two minutes in. However, the Flyers used their sharp shooting and offensive balance to pull away.
In the first half, UD held a 31-26 advantage as Fabrizius connected on both three-point attempts and Wright put home two dunks.
Defensively, the Flyers were sharp. Fordham's last field goal came with 10:33 to play. The Rams finished the game shooting 33 percent (17 of 51) from the floor.
Up next for Dayton is a visit down to Cincinnati to play the Xavier Musketeers on Saturday. Tip-off is at 11 a.m. ET.
