All-Ohio Results
CEADERVILLE, Ohio – University of Dayton women’s cross country placed second at the 2010 All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships on Friday afternoon at the Elvin R. King Course. All seven Flyer varsity runners set personal bests, led by senior Maureen Bulgrin’s second-place finish in the 5K event.
Bulgrin renewed her personal record for the second time this season after clocking in at 17:19.0. The Munroe Falls, Ohio native has been a top-two finisher in each of the Flyers’ four meets this season.
“She is having a dream season, and there is still a long way to go for her,” Head Coach Sarah Hinkley said. “The thing that Maura has that you wish you could instill in everybody is that killer instinct. She wants to beat people and she is going to do what is needed in order to accomplish that – she is finishing the race dead tired. I want the other ladies to look at how tough she races and follow that. It’s going to be a very exciting season for her.”
Six other Flyer harriers finished with personal records on Friday to lift UD to its best finish in the All-Ohio meet in program history. Senior Liz Coorey placed seventh with her top time of 17:46.0, junior Elissa Mason crossed the finish line in 13th with a personal best of 18:05.1. Freshman Nicole Cargill (18:23.3) and junior Emily Zimmerman (18:23.4) finished back-to-back in 23rd and 24th, respectively.
Ranked 10th in U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Great Lakes Region poll, Dayton edged three other regionally ranked opponents, including No. 4 Toledo (running a partial squad), No. 11 Ohio and No. 13 Cincinnati. UD has placed second or better in each meet this season. Eighth-ranked Miami captured the team title as four Redhawks finished in the top 10.
The Flyers have a week off before returning to compete in the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday, Oct. 16, in Terre Haute, Ind.
