DAYTON, Ohio – With 23 points and 12 rebounds, senior forward Chris Wright helped Dayton men’s basketball power past Akron, 76-68, on Tuesday night at UD Arena.
Wright notched his second double-double of the season and 14th of his career on 9-of-12 shooting from the field, 10 defensive rebounds and two offensive. Senior forward Devin Searcy also gave his second double-double in as many games with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Freshman guard Juwan Staten scored all of his 11 points in the first half as Dayton held a 42-31 lead at the break. Akron came back in the second half to take a two-point lead with 8:20 remaining. The Flyers answered with a 15-4 run until the final buzzer.
Dayton (2-0) out-scored Akron (1-1) in the paint, 34-6. It is the 11th consecutive victory for the Flyers in 13th meeting with Akron.
Akron’s Brett McClanahan drained five three-point field goals to finish with a game-high 21 points.
A crowd 12,377 of the Flyer Faithful watched Dayton win its 38th consecutive non-conference home game on Tuesday night.
The Flyers travel to Oxford, Miss., for the first road game of the season on Saturday against Ole Miss in a 7 p.m., tipoff.
