LAST TIME OUT
It took the first half for the University of Dayton women’s basketball team to thaw out from the blizzard that hit New York, leading only 32-25 at the half, but the Flyers were hot in the second period, cruising to a 72-42 win over Fordham in an Atlantic 10 noon game Thursday at Rose Hill Gym. Dayton improves to 19-5 overall and 7-2 in A-10 play, while the Rams drop to 8-17 and 2-8. With the win Dayton Head Coach Jim Jabir became the second all-time winningest UD women’s basketball coach; his 109 wins surpassing R. Elaine Dreidame’s 108 (1970-78). With 10 more wins he will tie the all-time leader Linda Makowski’s 119 (1980-86). Freshman Kari Daugherty led UD with 16 points. Redshirt junior Aundrea Lindsey had a career-high six assists in the victory to go along with her seven points. In the second half the Flyer defense allowed just 17 points, holding the Rams to 16.7 percent shooting, including 12.5 percent from behind the arc. Meanwhile, UD’s offense got hot. The Flyers shot 46.7 percent, including 75 percent (6-of-8) from three-point land.
