Complete List of A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll Selections in PDF Format

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The University of Dayton Division of Athletics continued its long tradition of success in the classroom by placing 113 student-athletes on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Fall 2009 semester.

The A-10 Honor Roll, which was released Wednesday, recognizes each student-athlete who attained a 3.5 grade-point average or higher during the Fall 2009 semester.
 
“I congratulate the student-athletes who have been named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.  Balancing the demands of athletic participation and academic achievement is a difficult task,” says A-10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. “Each is a great role model for their institution and the Atlantic 10 Conference.” 

Dayton was second among the 14 Atlantic 10 Conference institutions in number of student-athletes recognized despite sponsoring fewer sports than all but one school in the league. The Flyers were just six shy of La Salle’s 119 student-athletes honored on the list. However, UD did have the highest percentage of student-athletes earn the honor.

The Flyers led the way as 38 percent of UD student-athletes earned the honor. The Explorers sponsor 20 sports that compete in the A-10 compared to UD’s 14.

Duquesne was third with 104 student-athletes named to the list. Massachusetts rounded out the top four with 103.

There were a total of 1,162 student-athletes named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the Fall of 2009.

Success in the classroom is nothing new for UD student-athletes. The Flyers' combined cumulative grade point average is currently 3.212. During the Fall 2009 semester, 253 of the Flyers’ 387 student athletes earned a GPA between 3.00-4.00; that’s 65 percent.

In addition, UD has had 39 Academic All-Americans in the last nine years and at least one Academic All-American for 26 straight years.
