NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Dayton freshman Matt Buse earned the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week award after his performances in the previous two tournaments.

This is Buse’s first career A-10 Rookie of the Week award and the first this season for the Flyers.

Buse’s week started off well as he shot a 69 in the final round of the Big Blue Intercollegiate to help the Flyers finish in fourth. Buse completed the tournament tied for 25th among individuals after shooting a 73 and 77 in the first two rounds.

Then over the weekend, Buse played consistently shooting 75, 74 and a 75 at the 2010 UK Bluegrass Invitational.

Buse ranks tied for second on the team in stroke average at 75.5 strokes per round. During the spring season, Buse has been UD’s best golfer averaging 73.9 strokes per round.

The freshman also has 14 consecutive rounds shooting below an 80 since his first collegiate 18-holes of play to open the season.

Buse is UD’s third weekly Atlantic 10 winner this season. Michael Oberschmidt and Jeff Hodapp earned A-10 Player of the Week honors earlier this year during the fall season.

Next up for UD is the Detroit Titans Invitational on April 16 and 17 in Highland, Mich.
