GAME NOTES
DAYTON, Ohio -- After dropping last weekend’s series to the UMass Minutemen, the University of Dayton Flyers look to get back on the right track, hosting the Eastern Kentucky Colonels on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET at Time Warner Cable Stadium.
Last weekend, the Flyers (20-28) and Minutemen combined for 75 runs, the most in a series under head coach Tony Vittorio. Dayton lost the series 2-1. Aaron Dunsmore and Jimmy Roesinger were two of the biggest contributors to the offensive prowess from Dayton. Dunsmore had three doubles and two home runs, while Roesinger hit .500 with a double and an RBI.
Brian Blasik continues to impress, leading the team with a .351 batting average. He has posted 15 doubles, one triple and seven home runs for 36 RBI this season. In his last six A-10 contests, Blasik has hit .500 overall.
The Colonels enter Tuesday with a .500 record overall, and also hope to bounce back after being swept by Murray State last weekend. Jayson Langfels leads the Colonels with a .382 batting average, but is hitless in his last four games. Richie Rodriguez had a big week for the Colonels with a triple and his first career grand slam in EKU’s win over Ohio on Wednesday. He followed that up with another triple and four runs in the series against Murray State.
Eastern Kentucky will start freshman right-hander Austin Rexroat (2-1, 7.97 ERA.. Rexroat has not pitched since April 13 due to injury. Dayton has not yet named a starter, but both teams are expected to utilize their pitching depth.
Tuesday’s game will serve as a “rubber match” of sorts between the teams. Dayton won 12-5 on the road last year, but fell in 2008 10-4 to EKU at home.
First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday at Time Warner Cable Stadium. Due to technical difficulties the game will not be broadcast on 1660 AM. Admission to the game is free of charge.
