DAYTON MEN'S BASKETBALL RELEASES 2010-11 NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

DAYTON -The University of Dayton Men's Basketball program announced its non-conference schedule and Atlantic 10 opponents.

The Flyers will play half their 2010-11 schedule against teams that reached the postseason last year.

Coming off the 2010 NIT Championship, Dayton’s non-conference opponents include teams from the BIG EAST, CAA, MAC, Mountain West and SEC. The Flyers will play eight games against teams that were in the postseason in 2009-10.

All four away games (Cincinnati, Mississippi, Old Dominion and Seton Hall) will be against teams who played in the NCAA or NIT Tournaments.

In Atlantic 10 Conference play the Flyers will host five opponents who played in the postseason last year, including all three NCAA teams.

“We have stayed true to our philosophy of playing a difficult non-conference schedule that includes teams from the top leagues across the country,” said head coach Brian Gregory. “In addition to our rugged Atlantic 10 schedule, we are looking forward to playing an extremely challenging non-conference schedule.”

The 2010-11 non-conference schedule features 11 homes contests at UD Arena. Included in that group are NCAA Tournament participant New Mexico, College Basketball Invitational participant Akron and CollegeInsider.com Tournament contestants George Mason and Western Carolina.

Dayton will have three extra home games this year as UD opens the season on Saturday, Nov. 13 against the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers, hosts Savannah State on Monday, Nov. 22 and Florida A&M on Wednesday, Nov. 24. The Flyers will then travel down I-75 to play the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday, Nov. 27 at U.S. Bank Arena in a preseason exempt tournament.

This will be the third consecutive in-season tournament the Flyers will have participated in. The name and format of the preseason exempt tournament will be announced at a later date.

In between the Mount Saint Mary’s and Savannah State contests Dayton will host the Akron Zips on Tuesday, Nov. 16 and then head to Ole Miss on Saturday, Nov. 20.

To open the month of December the Flyers begin a three-game homestand on Wednesday, Dec. 1 hosting the East Tennessee State Buccaneers, the Miami RedHawks on Saturday, Dec. 4 and the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils on Tuesday, Dec. 7.

On Saturday, Dec. 11 the Flyers then head to Virginia to face the Old Dominion Monarchs. Dayton returns home to host the Western Carolina Catamounts on Saturday, Dec. 18 and the Winthrop Eagles on Monday, Dec. 20.

Dayton heads to the Seton Hall Pirates on Wednesday, Dec. 22 and will host the George Mason Patriots a week later on Wednesday, Dec. 29.

The Flyers will wrap up the non-conference portions of the schedule with a New Year’s Day showdown against the New Mexico Lobos.

The 16-game Atlantic 10 Conference schedule follows in January, February and March.

The Flyers will play home-and-home Atlantic 10 games with Duquesne, Saint Louis and Xavier. In addition, Dayton will play host to Fordham, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's and Temple. On the road, UD will play Charlotte, George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts and Rhode Island in conference play.

UD will have two exhibition home games in early November before beginning the regular season.

Dayton's complete schedule, including the Atlantic 10 Conference schedule and game times, will be announced at a later date.
