DAYTON, Ohio
– Despite a number of late opportunities, the University of Dayton men’s soccer team fell 1-0 to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Wednesday at Baujan Field. The Flyers’ loss drops them to 3-4-1 on the season.

UD led in shots on goal with seven to Oakland’s five in the match. Despite the advantage Dayton was unable to capitalize on a couple of close calls near the Golden Grizzlies goal. Additionally, the Flyers had 10 of their 14 total shot attempts in the second half.

Goalkeeper Tyler Picard made four stops in the match, while the Grizzlies tallied 18 shot attempts against UD. Senior Oskar Kretzinger and freshman Victor Duru each had two shots on goal.

“I think we played one good half. In the second half we put a lot of pressure on them, but Oakland is a seasoned team and we were just unable to convert,” Dayton head coach Dennis Currier said. “We got forward better in the second half. I felt that in the first half we were a little bit pinned in. That has been one of our problems this year. We have to work really hard on that for Sunday since it is our last tune-up game before the A-10 schedule begins.”

Johnny Dreshau put up Oakland’s lone goal at the 32:33 mark after the ball squirted out on Dayton goalkeeper Tyler Picard’s diving attempt at the ball as he and OU’s Vuk Popovic raced for it. Dreshau buried the loose ball from 10 yards out to give the Golden Grizzlies a 1-0 lead.

The Flyers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 3 against the Canisius Griffins at 3:00 p.m. They will follow the women’s soccer match against the La Salle Explorers at 1:00 p.m. Both matches are available live on GameTracker at DaytonFlyers.com.
