FLYERS OPEN A-10 PLAY AT NO. 9 XAVIER
The University of Dayton women’s basketball team starts off conference play in style, taking on No. 9 Xavier, in both teams’ Atlantic 10 opener, this Sunday, Jan. 9 at 3 p.m. ET at the Cintas Center. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN2 with Beth Mowins providing play-by-play, along with analyst Carolyn Peck. The game is Xavier’s Pack The House Challenge and those who bring a canned food item will receive free admission.
The matchup will feature the top two scoring offenses in the A-10: Dayton (81.9) and Xavier (72.3). The Musketeers also lead the conference in field goal percentage at .456, followed closely by the Flyers, who are shooting .441 from the field. UD is also first in the A-10 in three-point field goal percentage (.391) and defensive rebounding. Both teams are strong on the boards; Xavier (+8.7) is second in rebound margin and Dayton (+8.1) is third.
DAYTON QUICK HIT
With a three-point field goal against Xavier, Dayton will have hit at least one three-point field goal in 300 consecutive games. The longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference, the Flyers have made at least one three-pointer in every game since Jan. 2, 2001.
THE DAYTON DETAILS
The Flyers are 9-5 overall this season and riding a four-game win streak. Junior Justine Raterman leads UD in scoring with 15.9 ppg and rebounding with 6.4 rpg. Senior Kristin Daugherty is also averaging double figure scoring at 14.2 ppg. Junior Patrice Lalor leads the Flyers in assists with 51, and also adds 9.4 ppg.
SCOUTING XAVIER
Xavier. 11-2 overall, is ranked No. 9 in both the AP Top 25 and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls. 6-foot-5 redshirt senior Amber Harris (19.7 ppg, 10.1 rpg) and 6-6 senior Ta’Shia Phillips (13.5 ppg, 12.8 rpg - 2nd in NCAA) both average double-doubles for XU. Harris also leads the team in blocked shots (32), while Phillips has 22. Senior Special Jennings leads the Musketeers with 62 assists. Xavier, which has lost two of its last three games, leads the A-10 in scoring margin (+17.0).
THE SERIES
Dayton leads the all-time series 31-25, however Xavier has won the last two, and four of the last five meetings. The Flyers are 11-13 all-time against the Musketeers when playing Xavier on the road. XU claimed the last meeting 80-79 in overtime at UD Arena on Feb. 17, 2010. The last meeting at the Cintas Center, Xavier won 74-49 on Jan. 30, 2010, UD’s worst loss of the regular season.
COMMON OPPONENTS
Dayton and Xavier have faced two common opponents thus far: Louisville and Cincinnati. XU went 2-0 (71-59 win over Louisville and 69-61 win over UC), while Dayton went 1-1 (a 70-59 win over UC and 69-55 loss to the Cardinals).
KRISTIN VS. XU
This will be the eighth time UD senior Kristin Daugherty has faced the Musketeers during her career. She has averaged 9.1 ppg and 3.7 rpg in those meetings in which UD went 3-4 against XU, while overall in her career she averages 11.0 ppg. Her best outing was the first when she put up 13 points and seven rebounds in a 44-43 Dayton win on Feb. 14, 2008. She scored eight points in UD’s 63-60 overtime upset of the Musketeers in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Atlantic 10 Women’s Tournament on March 7, 2009.

The Flyers continue a three-game road swing when they play at Saint Louis in an Atlantic 10 matchup on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 8 p.m. ET.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton upset No. 25 Boston College 89-77 on Jan. 3. Junior Patrice Lalor paced the Flyers with 22 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Junior Justine Raterman added 21 points and six rebounds. Senior Kristin Daugherty added 19 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while redshirt junior Elle Queen had 12 points and six assists. UD held Boston College’s All-American candidate and the nation’s field goal percentage leader Carolyn Swords to just 1-of-5 from the field for a career-low two points. The Flyers shot 55 percent from three-point range (11-of-20). The Eagles are just the second team to outrebound Dayton this season, winning the battle of the boards 45-38.
FLYERS RANKED IN THE A-10
Junior Justine Raterman is fifth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring with 15.9 ppg, while senior Kristin Daugherty is seventh with 14.2 ppg. Raterman is also 15th in the A-10 in rebounding with 6.4 rpg. She is one of two players to be in the Top 5 in scoring and Top 20 in rebounding in the conference. The other is Xavier’s Amber Harris. Both Raterman (3rd - .553) and Daugherty (6th - .524) are in the Top 10 in field goal percentage. Daugherty leads the A-10 in three-point field goal percentage with an astounding mark of .585. Raterman is second at .492. Kari Daugherty is 11th (.385). Kristin Daugherty also leads the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2). Casey Nance is 11th in blocked shots (1.1) and Patrice Lalor is 10th in assists (3.6).
SCORING MACHINE
The Flyers own seven of the top nine spots in the A-10 for highest points scored in a game: 107 vs. Penn State is tops, followed by their 102 vs. Toledo and 101 vs. Harvard. Dayton’s 98 scored against CSU Bakersfield is fifth, while the 97 vs. Minnesota is the sixth highest tally, 91 vs. Wright State is tied for seventh and 89 vs. No. 25 Boston College is tied for ninth.
WHEN THEY WIN, THEY WIN BIG
In Dayton’s nine wins the Flyers are outscoring opponents by 20.6 ppg. The closest score of all Dayton’s wins was an 11-point victory over Cincinnati. The Flyers are 7-0 in games decided by 16 or more points this season.
SPREADING THE WEALTH
The Flyer offense is averaging an Atlantic 10 best 81.9 ppg, which is 13th best in the nation.

The captains for the 2010-2011 season are senior Kristin Daugherty, red shirt junior Elle Queen and junior Justine Raterman.
100 AGAIN
The Flyers have scored more than 100 points in three games this season. A 112-107 double overtime loss to Penn State in their opener, a 102-69 win over Toledo on Dec. 5 and a 101-80 win over Harvard on Dec. 30.
SEVERAL STARTING LINEUPS
In 14 games this season UD Head Coach Jim Jabir has used eight different starting lineups, including a new look in the starting lineup of the Flyers’ first four games of the season. The lineup of Elle Queen, Justine Raterman, Casey Nance, Patrice Lalor and Kristin Daugherty has started the last four games for UD and Dayton is 4-0 in those games.
REAL DEAL RATERMAN
Just a junior, Justine Raterman has already scored 1,108 career points, 16th all-time at UD. She needs 20 points to reach Steph Mathu (1993-97) in 15th with 1,128. Her 113 three-point field goals made are tied for seventh all-time. She is tied with 2010 alum Kendel Ross. Teammate Kristin Daugherty is sixth all-time at UD with 122.
PASSIN’ PATRICE
Patrice Lalor has 304 career assists, 11th all-time at UD. Lalor needs 18 to catch Christi Hester (1996-00) for 10th with 322. She was tied for the Atlantic 10 lead with a 1.9 assist-to-turnover ratio last season. She was second in the conference with 134 assists. Lalor is 10th in the A-10 this season with 3.6 apg.
DAUGHERTY’S DESTINY
Senior Kristin Daugherty scored the 1,000th point of her University of Dayton career as the Flyers battled to a 74-60 win over Massachusetts Feb. 13, 2010. She became the 18th Flyer women’s basketball player to reach 1,000 and just the seventh to accomplish the feat by her junior season. She now has 1,278 points, 11th all-time at UD. She needs 30 points to catch Tobette Pleasant (1985-89) in 10th with 1,308 points. Her 122 three-pointers are sixth all-time. She needs 12 to move up to fifth all-time, currently held by Jennifer Strong (2002-07) with 134.
BLOCK PARTY
Casey Nance was second in the Atlantic 10 in blocked shots last year with 64. She hit a career milestone in the George Washington game on Jan. 9, 2010. With her three swats against the Colonials she reached 101 in her career. Nance is just the fourth player in UD history to notch over 100 blocks; her current 144 career blocks are third all-time. Nance needs four blocks to catch Nikki Oakland (2004-08) for second all-time at 148. Michele Kruty (‘84-88) holds the all-time record at UD with 222 career blocks.
LEADING THE WAY
In Dayton’s 14 games this season, there have been six different Flyers lead the team in scoring and five different players lead in rebounding. Kristin Daugherty leads the way in points, having scored a team-high in five games, and Justine Raterman has led the team five times in rebounding. Daugherty, Olivia Applewhite, Casey Nance and Brittany Wilson have led the team in rebounding three times this season.
BATTLING FOR BOARDS
Dayton has out-rebounded all but two opponents this season. They are third in the Atlantic 10 in rebound margin (+8.1 - ranked 30th in the NCAA). The Flyers’ largest rebound margin this season, +29, came in their first win of the season, a 78-56 win over South Dakota.
THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three point shot in 299 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top 10 streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a season-high 11 treys three times this season: in thier 2010-11 season opener against Penn State, at Wright State and at No. 25 Boston College. The Flyers are 8th in the NCAA in 3-point field goal percentage (.391).
