KETTERING, Ohio – Senior Michael Oberschmidt tallied his best career finish after tying for second at the 2011 University of Dayton Fall Invitational.
Also coming in second were the Flyers as a team after tying with IUPUI with a 585 total. The Flyers lost a one-hole playoff for the team championship.
However, it was the third time during the fall season Dayton placed in the Top Five at a tournament and the second time the team earned a second place finish.
The Flyers had three golfers finish in the Top 10 individually.
Sophomore Andrew Steffensmeier played as an individual and came in fifth overall. Steffensmeier followed his first round 73 with a 72 in round two.
Another Dayton Top 10 finisher was junior Sean Keating. He placed in a tie for eighth after shooting a 75 in round two. For Keating, it was his third Top 10 finish of the fall campaign.
In the team competition, junior Matt Buse and freshman Will Chambers each rebounded from a 76 on day one to record a 72 in the second 18 holes of play. The duo both tied for 13th overall.
Junior Brenten Blakeman improved slightly in round two carding a 75.
Flyer individual golfers also had a nice showing.
Freshman Thomas Goss fired back-to-back 77’s and junior Mike Griffin shot a career-best with a 76 in round two.
Freshman Craig Purpus added a second round 79, while George Rhode shot an 81. Sophomore Tyler Hohman completed the scoring with an 85.
This is the final fall event for the Flyers. UD returns to action in early March.
