DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton, in conjunction with WHIO-TV in Dayton and Fox Sports Ohio, announced its 2011-12 men's basketball television schedule today. The Flyers currently have 23 televised games scheduled during the regular season.
Dayton games will be shown locally on WHIO-TV, regionally through Fox Sports Ohio and CBS Sports Regional and nationally on the ESPN family of networks and CBS Sports Network.
UD will continue its long-standing local television package with WHIO-TV, a partnership that dates back to 1951. A total of 10 games will be televised on WHIO-TV (seven produced locally, and three picked up as part of CBS Sports Network’s regional syndicated package). WHIO-TV is the No. 1 CBS affiliate in the country. It will broadcast the first Flyer TV game of the year when UD plays Miami on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
In addition, the University of Dayton and FOX Sports Ohio will begin their second season to televise Flyer men's basketball. FOX Sports Ohio reaches over five million households in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, western Pennsylvania, western New York and West Virginia. FOX Sports Ohio will produce and televise six men’s basketball games, beginning with Buffalo at Dayton on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
Dayton’s first national broadcast of the year will be at the Old Spice Classic Thanksgiving weekend. The UD-Wake Forest game on Thanksgiving evening will be carried on ESPN2. The other two games of the Old Spice tournament will be on the ESPN family of networks, with the network dependent on when the Flyers play during the final two days of the event. The Flyers will also be on ESPN on Jan. 21 when Xavier makes its annual visit to UD Arena.
Three of Dayton’s last five regular-season games will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network – Feb. 18 at Xavier, Feb. 25 at home vs. UMass and March 3 at home vs. GW.
"We are very pleased to continue our partnerships with WHIO-TV, Fox Sports Ohio, ESPN and CBS Sports Network,” said UD Vice President and Director of Athletics Tim Wabler. “The viewership numbers indicate that our market penetration rivals that of BCS schools in their home markets, and the combination of strong local, regional and national coverage is paramount to our program.
“We have one of the strongest and longest-standing local packages in the nation with our 60-year relationship with WHIO-TV. Our fans and alumni around the country will have the chance to watch our games on sports packages that carry FOX Sports Ohio,” Wabler added. “FSO’s broadcast footprint aligns well geographically with where many of our alumni reside and where we attract students to attend the University of Dayton.”
Games at the 2012 Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship will be televised on CBS Sports Network Regional (quarterfinals), and nationally on CBS Sports Network (semifinals) and CBS (finals).
All Flyer home games that are not nationally televised can be viewed via live video stream for free on DaytonFlyers.com through Dayton All-Access.
