FLYERS TOP WALSH 92-78

DAYTON, Ohio
- The University of Dayton men’s basketball team defeated the Walsh Cavaliers 92-78 in exhibition on Saturday at UD Arena.
   
Redshirt junior Josh Benson led the Flyers with 23 points and eight rebounds. Redshirt junior Kevin Dillard had 16 points and went 8-for-9 at the charity stripe for Dayton. Senior Luke Fabrizius chipped in 12 points and senior Chris Johnson posted 10 points.

Under first year head coach Archie Miller, the Flyers played an up-tempo game and had great ball movement. UD shot 53 percent (31-58) from the field and 48 percent (11-23) from beyond the arc.

The Flyers forced 16 Walsh turnovers, which led to 26 points for Dayton.
 
UD opened the game red-hot from the field, going on a 7-0 run and converting on its first five shots. Dayton continued its surge, leading the Crusaders 28-15 with 11: 54 remaining in the first half.

After starting the game 6-for-7, Benson slammed home an alley-oop from Johnson to put the Flyers up by 19, 41-22.  The Flyers took a 53-37 lead into the half.

Dayton shot 63 percent from the field in the first half and was nearly 54 percent from beyond the arc. Parker and Fabrizius each had three treys, while Johnson and Dillard hit two in the game.

UD opened up a 24-point lead in the second half against Walsh on Parker’s three-pointer with 17 minutes left.  Dayton never trailed in the contest, despite strong shooting by Kenny Kornowski (10-16, 30 pts.).

Nine Flyers saw at least 14 minutes of action. Dillard played 29 minutes and Johnson played 28 minutes.

The Flyer bench outscored the Walsh bench 30-5. Fabrizius led the Flyer bench with 12 points.

Dayton’s final exhibition will be played next Saturday Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. ET against the Findlay Oilers at UD Arena. Dayton opens its regular season Nov. 12 at UD Arena against the Western Illinois Leathernecks at 2 p.m. ET.
