MEN AND WOMEN EARN NSCAA ACADEMIC TEAM AWARD

2011 NSCAA Men's Academic Teams | 2011 NSCAA Women's Academic Teams

Kansas City  –
The University of Dayton men’s and women’s soccer programs have been selected to receive the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award.

The award is given by the NSCAA to any college that presented a 3.0 cumulative team grade point average during the 2011-12 school year.  A total of 789 teams were selected.

UD was one of 153 schools to earn honors in both the men’s and women’s program.

Dayton’s women’s program tallied a 3.25 grade point average during the 2011-12 school year, while the men’s program had a 3.15 grade point average.

“I’ve been the head coach for 16 years and we’ve never had a team grade point average under 3.0 and that is a major focus for us,” said women’s head coach Mike Tucker. “For us to earn this award, we’ve continued to perform well on and off the field.”

“We have always emphasized a commitment to excellence in the classroom as we feel there is a direct correlation between off field performance and on field performance,” said men’s head coach Dennis Currier. “Our program has been very consistent in maintaining over a 3.0 GPA and we are proud of our team's accomplishment.”

Both programs have completed their seasons, with the women’s team capturing a third consecutive A-10 title and a berth to the NCAA tournament.
