3 FLYERS NAMED TO THE 2011 A-10 WOMEN'S ROWING ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Dayton rowers Katherine Bruening, Michelle Baeder and Erin Quinn were selected to the 2011 Atlantic 10 Rowing All-Academic Team.

All three are juniors and members of Dayton’s Varsity 8 which won the 2011 Atlantic 10 Women’s Rowing Championship for the first time in the program’s history.

Dayton led all schools with three student-athletes named to the 2011 academic team, while Massachusetts and Rhode Island each placed two members.

For Bruening, this is the second consecutive season she has been named to the A-10 All-Academic team. This is also the third time in the previous four years Dayton has placed multiple rowers on the A-10 All-Academic team.

Bruening has a remarkable early story at UD. She never rowed prior to college and was a true novice her freshman year. She worked her way up on the depth chart and is one of Dayton’s strongest rowers. The Beachwood, Ohio native earned a Second Team, All-Atlantic 10 selection after serving as the coxswain of Dayton’s Varsity 8 Atlantic 10 Championship boat.

Academically, Bruening was named to the 2010 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN the Magazine University Division Academic All-District IV Women's At-Large second team. She has made the Dean’s List every semester at UD and is majoring in pre-medicine with a cumulative grade point average of 3.76.

Quinn is a 2010 member of the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete list. Serving as a team captain, the Fort Wayne, Ind. native is majoring in history and has a cumulative GPA of 3.82.

Baeder is also a 2010 member of the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete list. She has made the Dean’s List in every semester at Dayton. The Dublin, Ohio native majors in Pre-Physical Therapy and has a cumulative GPA of 3.81.

The voting was conducted among the conference's sports information directors. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and be an important part of the team.
