DAYTON, Ohio – One year after playing at Time Warner Cable Stadium for the Flyers, Cole Tyrell ‘10 will return to Dayton as a professional with the Fort Wayne TinCaps in a three-game series against the Dayton Dragons at Fifth Third Field beginning Wednesday.

Tyrell was drafted in the 42nd Round of the 2010 MLB First Year Player Draft by the San Diego Padres after a career as a four-year starting infielder for the Flyers – the Minooka, Ill., native is now playing catcher for the TinCaps. Tyrell began the 2011 season with the Class A short-season Eugene Emeralds and was assigned to the Class A TinCaps on May 29.

Tyrell helped guide Dayton to its first conference title in program history in 2009 and finished his career as a Flyer with a .289 batting average, 150 runs scored, 236 hits, 25 homeruns, 165 RBI and 120 double-plays turned. His 165 career RBI ranks third all-time at Dayton.

This season, Tyrell is batting .200 with five doubles, 16 hits and 15 runs scored through 25 games played with the TinCaps.

The three-game series between the TinCaps and Dragons begins on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET at Fifth Third Field in downtown Dayton.
