WOMEN?S CROSS COUNTRY PLACES SIXTH AT THE A-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Dayton women’s cross country team finished sixth out of 16 teams at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday at Belmont Plateau in Fairmont Park.

“The A-10 had eight regionally ranked teams heading into the weekend and we were able to finish sixth among those eight ranked teams,” Dayton Women’s Cross Country Head Coach Sarah Haveman said. “The women ran tough, smart and confidently today. They have an exciting road ahead of them.”

Junior Lizzie Gleason turned in an A-10 All-Conference performance finishing seventh overall with a time of 17:59.7. Junior Nicole Cargill also turned in a Top 20 time on Saturday. Cargill finished the 5K in 18:25.3 for 17th place.

“I am very proud of how we ran today, and I am pleased with the progress our program is making,” Haveman said. “We are looking forward to the regionals in two weeks.”

Butler, ranked No. 6 in the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region, won the team title with 37 points. La Salle (No. 7 in Mid-Atlantic Region) took second with 70 points and Richmond (No. 15 in Southeast Region) rounded out the top three with 125 points. Saint Louis (No. 14 Midwest Region) finished fourth with 134 points. Xavier (No. 14 Great Lakes) was fifth with 150 points. Dayton had 154 points, finishing ahead of regionally ranked Duquesne (No. 9 Mid-Atlantic), Saint Joseph’s (No. 14 Mid-Atlantic) and George Washington (No. 15 Mid-Atlantic).

Senior Marisa Slomski had a time of 18:55.0. Junior Sarah Reynolds checked in at 18:59.3, while freshman Olivia Albers rounded out UD’s top five with a time of 19:03.8.

Freshman Arden Burch and sophomore Mary List finished neck and neck with times of 19:13.0 and 19.13.1 respectively. Sophomore Katie Ollier finished in 19:17.9, while freshman Kerrill Mueller checked in at 19:21.8 and sophomore Nicole Armstrong had a time of 19:30.2.

Dayton is back in action at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 9 in Madison, Wisc.
