DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton volleyball team will be heading out of town this weekend for its first two road Atlantic 10 matches of the season. The Flyers will head to Philadelphia for a 7 p.m. match-up against the La Salle Explorers Friday at Tom Gola Arena followed by a Sunday afternoon tilt at Virginia Commonwealth's Siegel Center.
ABOUT THE FLYERS
Dayton (6-8, 0-2 A-10) dropped back-to-back matches over the weekend as the Flyers began Atlantic 10 conference play. UD fell to VCU in a hotly contested five-setter, 3-2, and also dropped a 3-2 decision to Saint Louis. Averaging 2.92 blocks/set, Dayton currently leads the Atlantic 10 and ranks sixth nationally in that category. Senior
Megan Campbell averaged 2.10 blocks/set by herself over the weekend, earning her mention as the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30.
Campbell is the team's offensive leader, averaging 2.68 kills/set while hitting at a .326 clip (3rd A-10). Sophomore
Jenna Jendryk is the squad's floor general, setting 8.79 assists per game (7th A-10) and sophomore
Janna Krafka gets under 4.45 digs/set (3rd A-10) as the team's leading passer. At the net, three Flyers are averaging more than one block per set, including Campbell with 1.30 (3rd A-10).
SCOUTING LA SALLE
La Salle (1-19, 0-2 A-10) is coming off three straight losses this past weekend, dropping a 3-0 decision to George Mason, a 3-0 decision to Rhode Island and a 3-1 loss to Penn. La Salle's only win of the 2013 season came in the first match of the year as they defeated Farleigh Dickinson in straight sets, 3-0.
Kelly Perillo leads La Salle with 3.02 kills/set (8th A-10) and a .169 hitting percentage. Michelle Healy sets 4.02 assists per frame and Ashley Felton is the team's leading blocker with 0.79 blocks/set. Erin Noga passes a team-best 3.91 digs per set which ranks seventh in the league.
SCOUTING VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH
Virginia Commonwealth (12-4, 2-0 A-10) is coming off a 2-0 weekend as the Rams defeated the Flyers, 3-2, in comeback fashion in both team's A-10 opener Sept. 27. VCU followed that up with a 3-2 win over Duquesne to remain perfect in league action. As a team, the Rams are second in the league in opponent hitting percentage (.164) and rank third in kills/set (12.41) and blocks (2.63/set).
Romana Kriskova leads VCU with 4.82 kills/set (1st A-10) and a .262 hitting percentage (9th A-10). Cecilia Aragao sets 9.70 assists per frame (3rd A-10) and Janelle Sykes is the team's leading blocker with 1.33 blocks/set (2nd A-10).

NOT JUST AN OFFENSIVE THREAT
After averaging 2.10 blocks/set over the weekend, senior
Megan Campbell was named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Sept. 30. This is the second weekly honor for Campbell after earning Player of the Week honors the first week of awards. Campbell posted double-digit blocks in back-to-back matches averaging an incredible 2.10 blocks/set against VCU and SLU. Campbell, a middle blocker, narrowly missed the double-double in both matches, recording nine kills and 10 blocks against VCU and nine kills to go with a career-high 11 blocks against SLU. The frontline player also had three digs and three aces.
DON'T HIT ON US
In the Flyers' five-set thriller over Saint Mary's (Calif.) on Sept. 14, the team set a new program record for blocks in a match with 22.5 total team blocks. Also a new school record was the 41 assisted blocks the Flyers' tallied in the 3-2 win over the Gaels. Sophomore
Angel Agu recorded a career-high 10 blocks in the contest while senior
Megan Campbell added nine. Sophomore
Jenna Jendryk narrowly missed the elusive triple-double with her career-high 48 assists, 12 digs and nine blocks as well.
BATTLING THE BEST
Five of Dayton's eight losses this season were against teams that are were ranked or receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Flyers defeated Saint Mary's (Calif.), 3-2, when the Gaels were receiving votes in the national poll earlier this season.

Megan Campbell has been named to the list of 30 finalists for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
UD PICKED TO WIN THE A-10 CROWN
The defending Atlantic 10 conference volleyball champion Flyers have been unanimously selected as the 2013 Atlantic 10 preseason favorite in a vote conducted among the league's nine head coaches. The Flyers (27-5, 14-0 Atlantic 10) won both the 2012 regular season and the A-10 Championship, their fourth-straight title and fifth in the last six years. The Flyers garnered all nine first-place votes for a point total of 81 in the poll. This was the fourth consecutive year Dayton was picked to finish first in the conference's preseason poll.
