ROWING TO COMPETE IN TURKEY CHALLENGE ON CAMPUS

Four Teams Will Vie To Win The Challenge Nov. 22-23

DAYTON, Ohio - While the weekend prior to Thanksgiving usually consists of mouths starting to water with thinking about the traditional feast that we are about to delve into, the UD Rowing Team will be partaking in the 2013 Thanksgiving Challenge.

The women will be divided into four teams that will compete in six challenges that will test their endurance, perseverance and teamwork. Each challenge will be worth a set amount of points and at the end of the weekend the teams will be placed accordingly based on their total points earned.

The teams will be competing in four events Friday and four Saturday. Friday's events will consist of an oar run, tug o' war ( in Collins Gym), tire flip (in Collins Gym) and team skit. For the oar run, four people per team will have to complete a course while carrying one oar together. The tug o' war will involve four people again and each team will compete to advance through the bracket and earn their points based on their finish. The tire flip is a relay where players will flip the tire end over end across the course. Friday will conclude with a team skit where each team must have a skit or song that will be judged.

Saturday's activities will consist of a joust (in Collins Gym), an ultimate frisbee game (in Collins Gym), a 15k erg relay (in the erg room at Frericks) and a wall sit contest (in the erg room at Frericks). It will start with the joust where one person from each team will stand on a Bosu Ball and attempt to knock off their opponents.

Following that all of the competitors will take part in an Ultimate Frisbee game. Next will be the event worth the most points, the 15k erg relay. In this event all of the women will complete 15k on the erg, divided between their team members. Concluding the events will be the wall sit challenge. All players must participate in this final challenge where it's a matter of the last man standing (sitting). The judges will average the length of everyone's sit and the longest team average will win.
Each team is also responsible for coming up with a costume that they must wear. It must be based on their assigned theme and they will be judged for creativity, wearbility and quality.

The overall winner will secure their place in Dayton Rowing history, along with winning a sweet prize.

Feel free to come out and support the rowing team this weekend as they perform these various tasks.
