OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – The University of Dayton women’s rowing team finished strong at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invite at Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

In the first race of the day for the Flyers, the eight-person varsity A team took first place with a time of 7:03.00, defeating Kansas A (7:06.67) and Eastern Michigan (7:34.70).

In the 12:16 race, Dayton took second place with a 7:59.60 mark in the eight-person novice race. That trailed Kansas by just 13 seconds.

The varsity eight team took second in the next race as well at 12:24, coming in with a time of 7:39.93. Dayton came in ahead of Eastern Michigan and just behind Kansas in the race.

“We did really well this afternoon,” said head coach Mike Wenker. “The varsity 8 put together their best races of the weekend. The other boats raced better as well. It is part of the process though. We try to work on things and get better each day.”

The Flyers will next compete at the Marietta Invite in Marietta, Ohio.
