FLYER ROWING TO COMPETE IN MARIETTA INVITATIONAL

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton women’s rowing team heads to Indianapolis, Indiana this Saturday to compete in the Marietta Invitational at Eagle Creek Park.

“The team is just excited to race some good competition and continue improving,” Head Coach Michael Wenker said.

The team will compete in the second flight of the varsity eight-person races against Ohio State and Purdue, which is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.

The second varsity eight-person race will be held at 12:00 p.m., followed by the novice eight-person race at 12:30 p.m. against Duquesne, Ohio State and Purdue.

After the scheduled events, there will be scrimmage races with times yet to be determined.

Senior captain Lauren Jabir discussed the competition from the team’s perspective.

“We are excited to compete against such high caliber teams like Ohio State and see where we stand as well as against teams in our conference and teams that are comparable to us,” said Jabir. “We are starting to figure out what our fastest boats can be which will set us up down the stretch.”

Coach Wenker also talked about the weekend.

“This will be our first race against A-10 rival Duquesne, who were a few seconds ahead of the varsity eight and Marietta who were less than a second behind at the Head of the Ohio,” Wenker said. “We just hope for some good weather.”
