DAYTON ADDS AUFMANN AS WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY AND TRACK AND FIELD VOLUNTEER

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton has announced the hiring of Madeline Aufmann as the new volunteer assistant coach for both women's cross country and women's track and field.

Aufmann will begin her coaching career after being a standout student-athlete at the University of Illinois. As a member of the Illini cross country team, she was an Academic All-Big Ten member and helped the program win a number of events in her five-year career.  Aufmann specialized in the steeplechase outdoors and qualified three straight years for the NCAA West Prelim's. She helped Illinois claim an Indoor Big Ten Championship in 2012-13 and was once again an Academic All-Big Ten performer.

"I am really excited to be joining a great staff of people who are passionate about Cross Country and Track and Field and the University of Dayton," said Aufmann. "The entire athletic department has been very welcoming, and I am thrilled to be working alongside a coach like Sarah Haveman.  The team has set great goals.  I can't wait to help them towards success."

Aufmann will help out with the cross country program in the fall and the track and field program in the winter and spring. She will focus on the middle distance and distance athletes.

Women's cross country head coach Sarah Haveman talked about the addition of Aufmann to the program.

"We are very excited to bring Madeline aboard for our cross country and track & field programs," Haveman stated. "I was able to observe Madeline over the course of her successful career at the University of Illinois and I was always impressed with her composure during races and dedication to her teammates and university. She is an excellent addition to our staff and will help us continue to push the teams to new heights and accomplishments."

Aufmann is a native of Cary, Illinois. She received her degree in media studies from Illinois in 2013. She is currently working towards a master's degree in recreational sports and tourism.

The Flyers will begin their cross country season on Aug. 31 when they host the Flyer 5K in Kettering.
