Stephanie Emery was named an Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Soccer Co-Player of the Week, while Flyer teammate
Elizabeth James earned Rookie of the Week honors. The student-athletes are recognized for games Sept. 16-22. Emery shared the Player of the Week honor with VCU's Maren Johansen.
Emery was a part of the Flyer offense that put up five goals in two wins last weekend. Against Central Michigan, the Chicago, Ill., native put two shots on goal, including the lone score in the 14th minute for a 1-0 victory over the Chippewas. On Sunday against Toledo, the senior forward gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead just 11 minutes into the game, before Dayton exploded for three additional goals in the last eight minutes of the match for a 4-0 win. Emery recorded her second and third goals of the season last weekend, equaling her career-high she scored last year.
James, a freshman goalkeeper out of Columbus, Ind., has played every minute for the Flyers this season and added two shutouts last week in the two Dayton wins. James faced 23 shots and registered nine saves, and her 48 saves this season rank second in the A-10. The rookie goalkeeper is also tied for first in the conference with four shutouts. James preserved her second shutout of the week against Toledo, who had posted eight goals in their previous two games, including a 3-2 win against No. 22 Pepperdine.
The Flyers improved to 5-4-1 as they head into their first conference game against Richmond on Sept. 28.
