DAYTON FLYER CLASSIC TOURNAMENT PAGE

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will play its first home games of the season this weekend when the Flyers host the 2013 Dayton Flyers Classic at Baujan Field. UD opens up its home stand at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Northern Kentucky. The Flyers then wrap-up the weekend on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Lipscomb. There will also be neutral games on Friday (Lipscomb vs. Eastern Illinois, 4:30 p.m.) and Sunday (NKU vs. Eastern Illinois, 11 a.m.).

PROMOTIONS
Friday's game will be Red Out at the game, which follows a Red Scare Rally and march to the field. Mini-flags will also be given out to fans attending Friday's contest. Sunday will be CYO and SAY Day at Baujan Field.

THE LAST TIME OUT
The Flyers won their season opener on the road last Sunday against the IPFW Mastodons, 4-2. A pair of goals from freshman Briand Richards led a late charge by UD that battled back from a 2-2 tie with just 10 men. Senior Greg Enstone and sophomore Amass Amankona also scored for the Flyers.

ABOUT THE NORSE
Northern Kentucky is 0-0-1 on the season under 11th-year head coach John Basalyga. The Norse also played IPFW in their only game of the season and ended that contest in a 2-2 tie on the road.

Junior Cian McDonald and senior Craig Heard scored for NKU in its opening game, while senior Brendan Murphy recorded an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper A.J. Fleak returns as the anchor in the back for the Norse.

ABOUT THE BISONS
Lipscomb picked up a 3-1 victory over Belmont in its season-opener last Friday, getting a pair of goals from junior Omar Djabi and one from sophomore Josue Chavez.

Micah Bledsoe played all 90 minutes for the Bison as goalkeeper and is a true freshman this season.

OFF TO A FAST START
Dayton was victorious in its first game of the 2013 season thanks to the contributions from a pair of newcomers. Freshman Brian Richards, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, scored two goals for the Flyers in two attempts. Sophomore Amass Amankona, a Ghana-native, recorded a goal and assist in the 4-2 win.

PRESEASON PREP
Dayton faced a pair of quality opponents in the preseason after tying the University of Kentucky 0-0 in the opener and defeating Eastern Illinois 2-1 last weekend. To wrap up the preseason, the Flyers held their annual Red and White intersquad scrimmage Sunday  in which the Red team came out on top 5-2. Sophomore Maik Schoonderwoerd scored a pair of goals in the scrimmage for the Reds.

PRESEASON ACCOLADES
The Flyers had a trio of players recognized by preseason All-Atlantic 10 team lists. Senior Abe Keller was named First Team All-A-10 in the College Sports Madness poll with sophomore goalkeeper Chris Froschauer earning second team honors in that same release. Freshman forward James Haupt was named to the All-Rookie team by the A-10 and was tabbed the Freshman of the Year by CSM as well.

RED JERSEY
Senior midfielder Eddie Jones earned the teams' Red Jersey. An award presented to the best performer in the preseason for UD. Players accumulate points in games, practices and team challenges.

SHAPING THE PROGRAM
UD men's soccer had 16 newcomers at this point in the season last year. The 2013 is different as the Flyers benefit from the experience of nine seniors and three graduate students.

WINNINGEST COACH
Head Coach Dennis Currier became UD's winningest soccer coach in 2011 recording win number 66, surpassing former head coach Roy Craig who had 65 wins from 1988-1995. In addition, Currier's wins came in 130 games, which was 31 games less than Craig. Currier holds a .707 lifetime winning percentage with a combined record of 267-102-33.

ACROSS THE GLOBE
This year's Flyer squad features 11 international players. Dayton has student-athletes from Canada, England, France, Germany, Ghana, Netherlands, Jamica, Costa Rica, Sweden and Switzerland.
