LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Dayton women's track and field team finished up competition at the University of Kentucky Invitational on Saturday.
The Flyers set a number of personal marks and recorded numerous Top 5 performances against tough competition in Lexington.
"We had another meet filled with outstanding performances," said head coach
Jason Francis. "Leading the way for us was
Katie Ollier and
Lizzie Gleason in the 3000m and the mile. We still have some areas that need improvements, but all-in-all, it was a good meet for us. We definitely look to continue to build week in and week out."
Lizzie Gleason had the best performance of the day, finishing first overall in the one mile run. Her personal record time of 4:58.59 was the top in her flight and the top time out of the 32 runners.
Nicole Cargill finished fourth overall with a time of 5:04.62, a new personal record.
Mary List also broke into the Top 10 with a 5:12.74 performance, shattering her previous personal best by almost 28 seconds.
Megan Collins and
Lauren Clark had their best times in the event as well.
In the 60m hurdles, the Flyers had five student-athletes compete in the seven different preliminaries. Two of those five took first-place in their heat as
Adria Butler (9.71) and
Jordan Hoffman (8.76) won their prelims. Hoffman's mark was the second best in school history and a personal record. Out of 47 runners, Hoffman finished 12
th overall. Butler set a PR as well in the event.
Maya Pedersen finished seventh in the 400m dash and set a new personal best with a time of 57.07, which is the fourth best mark in school history. There were 43 runners spread out over nine heats.
Chelsea VanHook rode a personal best time of 2:17.72 en route to a Top 20 finish in the 800m run.
Katie Ollier finished third overall out of 39 in the 3000m event with a time of 9:55.22, leading the way for Dayton. Nicole Armstrong also placed in the Top 8, with a time of 10:11.57. Both of those performances were personal bests, along with Bridget McElhenny's PR.
In the high jump,
Rebecca Maj and
Katy Garcia had the third best mark with jumps of 1.65m.
Miranda Nelson opened up her second day at the Kentucky Invite with a 12
th-place showing in the shot put, posting a mark of 12.87m.
In the long jump,
Hilary Lang finished second in her flight with a jump of 5.12m.
Dayton had a strong performance as a team in the pole vault with
Hanna Krizmanic and
Ashley DeMange posting school Top 5 marks of 3.75m.
The 4x400m event finished off the day with the Dayton "A" squad taking ninth out of 19 teams with a time of 3:57.47. Pedersen, Yaeger, Thomas, and VanHook made up the "A" squad.
The Flyers will return to action next weekend in Bloomington, Ind. for the Gladstein Invitational.
