DAYTON MEN’S TENNIS WRAPS UP FALL SEASON

Box Score University of Dayton men's tennis team concluded its 2014 fall season this weekend at the ITA Regional Championships in Nashville, Tenn.
 
In the first round of singles play, Carsten Fisher, defeated Jan Jirus of Ball State, 6-0, 6-4. In the second round, Fisher fought hard against Peck Bennington from Kentucky, ranked 12th in the country, but fell 6-1, 6-4.
 
Josh Malyon defeated Shakeel Manji from Memphis, ranked 21st in the country, in a first round victory, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. In the second round, Malyon encounter tough competition from Purdue player Ricardo Medinilla and was beat 6-3, 6-2.
 
"I thought the guys played well, especially in singles," said Dayton Head Coach Ryan Meyer. "The ITA Regional had some very tough competition and I thought our guys did a good job of representing the university by competing at a high level. We should have a ton of momentum going into the dual season."
 
Freshman Flyers, Carsten Fisher also felt positive following this weekend's event saying, "We did a good job of stepping up when we faced some stronger opponents, and I think we let some of the bigger teams know that we're ready to take them on in the spring."
 
The entire Dayton men's team is proud of the work they put in this fall and is ready to continue to make improvements for the spring season.
 
"I think the fall season was a great introduction for myself as a freshman into college tennis because it taught me a lot regarding some of the things I need to work on, and improvements I need to make going into our spring season," said Fisher. "I am itching to get back to the competition, and I think that this year is going to be one to remember, but also just the beginning of what we can accomplish in the long run as a team."
