#UDWBB TO OPEN 2014-15 AT WASHINGTON STATE FRIDAY

Flyers are 10-6 All-Time in Home Openers on the Road

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's basketball team will be hitting the road this week to open the 2014-15 at Washington State Friday. In the first of a four-game road swing to open the season, the Flyers will be squaring off against the Cougars at WSU's Beasley Coliseum at 10 p.m. EST (7 p.m. PST).

About the Flyers
Dayton women's basketball ended 2013-14 with a 23-8 overall record for the program's seventh-consecutive season with 20+ wins. The Flyers won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title with a 14-2 mark in league action and advanced to the finals of the A-10 Championship. With its game against Florida on March 23, Dayton made its fifth-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Dayton lost only one player to graduation last year and returns the 2014 A-10 Player of the Year Andrea Hoover (Sr.), 2014 A-10 First Team and All-Academic Team selection Ally Malott (Sr.) and 2014 A-10 All-Rookie and All-Defensive Team honoree Celeste Edwards (So.).

Scouting Washington State
Washington State picked up a 71-56 exhibition win over Central Methodist (Mo.) at home on Nov. 2 in the squad's only exhibition contest of the preseason. A year ago, the Cougars went 17-17 overall and recorded a 9-9 mark in Pac-12 Conference action. WSU returns its leading scorer from last season in senior Tia Presley who averaged 19.0 ppg. and 4.4 rpg. in 2013-14. The Cougars other senior, Shalie Dheensaw,, was the squad's top rebounder a year ago with 6.6 boards per contest.

Last Time Out
In its only exhibition game of the season, Dayton hosted Eckerd College Nov. 7 at UD Arena. The Flyers put away the Tritons, 93-18, as senior Ally Malott led all scorers with 18 points and three Flyers grabbed eight rebounds in the win.

» Undefeated at home the past two seasons, Dayton's 26-straight home victories is the second-longest active streak in the nation. The Flyers went 12-0 at home during 2013-14.
» Head coach Jim Jabir is in his 12th season at the helm of the Dayton women's team in 2014-15. He was named the eighth head coach, and first male, in the history of the program on April 8, 2003. Jabir holds a career record of 430-356 over 28 seasons.
» Dayton has been ranked or receiving votes in at least one major poll (Associated Press Top 25 or USA Today Coaches') for 40 consecutive weeks. The Flyers open the 2014-15 season ranked No. 22 in both major polls.

Friday's game will be the first meeting between Washington State and Dayton.

Dayton in Season Openers
Over the past 46 seasons, Dayton has posted a 27-19 mark in season openers. Of those 46 games, the Flyers are 10-6 in season-opening games on the road, 6-2 in neutral-site season openers and 11-11 in openers at home. In 2013-14, Dayton opened the season at the Iowa Hawkeye Challenge against UC Riverside and recorded an 89-54 win.

Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll
Dayton was unanimously picked to win the 2014-15 Atlantic 10 Conference title. The Flyers earned all 14 first-place votes among picks from the conference's head coaches. Four Dayton players were also recognized on Preseason All-Conference Teams, including seniors Andrea Hoover and Ally Malott who were named to the First Team. Junior Amber Deane earned mention on the Second Team while sophomore Celeste Edwards was named to both the Third and All-Defensive Teams.

We'll Take the Free Ones
As a team, the Flyers shot 76.4 percent from the free throw line in 2013-14, the BEST team free throw percentage in Dayton history. The 76.4 percent ranked second in the Atlantic 10 and 14th nationally. Then-junior Andrea Hoover led the Flyers from the line with a 93.6 percentage (1st A-10, 3rd NCAA).

20+ Winners
With the team's 23-8 overall record in 2013-14, the Flyers posted their seventh-consecutive 20+ win season. Since Dayton began its women's basketball program in 1968-69, UD has recorded 24 season with 20 or more wins.

Three Points of Excellence
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 410 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.

Flyers in League Play
Dayton has won 40 of its last 44 regular season Atlantic 10 games, a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, including posting a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season. Of its four losses over the previous three seasons, Dayton took two L's at home and two on the road.

Atlantic 10 Format
Despite its name, the Atlantic 10 conference consists of 14 member schools competing under one division in women's basketball. Each team will play a 16-game conference slate this coming season, including three home-and-away series. Dayton will play two games against George Washington, Richmond and Saint Louis and one against the remaining field during league action. The conference most recently welcomed Davidson, and this will be the first year the Flyers will square off against the Wildcats in program history.

Perfect Graduation Success Rate (GSR)
Dayton women's basketball has posted a perfect Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for nine consecutive seasons, every year the rate has been published except for one. The Flyers are one of only eight programs to post a perfect score and reach the NCAA Tournament for the past five seasons: Dayton, DePaul, Duke, Iowa State, Notre Dame, St. John's, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Additionally, Dayton was the only school to have both its men's and women's basketball programs post perfect GSR scores and make appearances in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
