#UDWSOC EARNS EIGHT ATLANTIC 10 HONORS

Nicole Waters Headlines Dayton's Honors As 2014 Midfielder of the Year

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The University of Dayton women's soccer program picked up eight honors when the Atlantic 10 announced its annual awards Wednesday.

The league's head coaches selected the 11-member First Team and 11-member Second Team All-Conference, as well as the All-Rookie squad. An 11-member All-Academic team was also selected, based on a vote of the women's soccer media relations directors at each of the 14 member institutions.

Junior Nicole Waters headlined the awards for UD as the 2014 Midfielder of the Year and a First Team selection.  Waters, a dominant offensive force for the Flyers, has eight goals and leads the A-10 with 15 assists this season, which also ranks fifth nationally. The junior midfielder's 34 career assists are good for third all-time at Dayton. The Terra Cotta, Ontario, native is a two-time First Team All-Conference selection, 2012 All-Rookie selection, and was recently named NSCAA Player of the Week. The three-time A-10 Player of the Week was also selected to train with the Canadian U-20 team.

Junior forward Ashley Campbell joined her on the A-10 First Team.  Campbell, a native of Bradford, Ontario, Canada, is a two-time First Team selection. The 2013 A-10 Offensive Player of the Year is third in the A-10 in points this year. She played for the Canadian U-20 National team in 2014 World Cup. She is fourth all-time at UD in career goals scored.

Freshman forward Alexis Kiehl was selected to the A-10 Second Team, as well as the All-Rookie Team. The two-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week made an immediate impact in her rookie season as UD's third-leading scorer behind First Teamers Campbell and Waters. Kiehl, of Cincinnati, Ohio,  has started every match except one for the Flyers, who lead the conference in goals scored.

Sophomore midfielder Erin O'Malley was also named Second Team All-Atlantic 10. A steadying force in midfield, she has started every game of her career. The West Chester, Pa. native is fourth in minutes played this season for the Flyers and has scored a career-high three goals. The 2013 All-Rookie Team selection was named to the 2014 TopDrawerSoccer.com Preseason Atlantic 10 Top 20 Team and Preseason First Team College Sports Madness Team.

Freshman defender Nicolette Griesinger, from Strongsville, Ohio, was named to the All-Rookie Team. She has started every match on defense for the Flyers and has played the most minutes of any UD player (1,769). Despite her youth she has lead the defense throughout the year.

Junior Megan Herr was named to the A-10 All-Academic Team. The Bowling Green, Ohio native boasts a 4.0 GPA and is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.

The single-elimination championship, which features the top eight teams, begins this Thursday, with reigning A-10 Champion and top seed, La Salle, taking on eighth-seeded Massachusetts at 11 a.m. The second quarterfinal at 1:30 p.m. features fourth-seeded George Washington and fifth-seeded Rhode Island. Second-seeded VCU will face crosstown rival and seventh-seed Richmond in the 5:00 pm match-up, while third-seeded Dayton, the tournament's host, will face sixth-seeded Saint Joseph's. Friday's semifinals games will begin at 5 p.m. and approximately 7:30 p.m., while Sunday's Championship finale will begin at 1 p.m., with the winner earning the A-10's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
