ROWING TAKES FOURTH IN SIRA GRAND FINAL

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. –
The University of Dayton competed at the 2014 Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championship Regatta this weekend. 

The Flyers took fourth place in the V8+ grand final Saturday afternoon in an extremely close race. Dayton turned in a time of 6:59.60, just being edged by George Washington (6:57.90) in third, Nova Southeastern (6:53.6) in second, and Kansas State (6:49.60) who took first. Dayton bettered Purdue and Central Oklahoma in the grand final. UD advanced to the final by beating Florida and Florida Tech in their semifinal heat. The Dayton JV8+ boat took fifth place in its final. That boat's crew was: Meghan Harden (coxswain), Alex AnainRosie PerezMary WillardKaty SpeedMeghan CaseyRachel HockGrace HaganSusie Klimowicz.

"The varsity boat improved each race," said UD Head Coach Mike Wenker. "The second boat raced once with mixes results.  It was a great first thousand followed by a big fade in the second. We have two weeks to work on a few things before A-10s."

The Flyers will be back in action Sunday, May 4 in Fairfax, Va. for the Atlantic 10 Championship.
