DAYTON BASEBALL TAKES SERIES FINALE FROM ST. BONAVENTURE

Box Score
DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team ended its series with St. Bonaventure on Sunday with a 5-1 win over the Bonnies.

The Flyers threatened to score in the third by loading the bases with just one out, but the home team was unable to capitalize.

Senior Kuris Duggan broke up the scoreless contest in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double down the right-field line, scoring redshirt freshman Glenn Jones, who had doubled earlier in the frame.

Duggan doubled Dayton's lead in the sixth with another RBI double, this time to left field. That put the Flyers ahead 2-0. Junior Sergio Plasencia then followed up with a two-run single to center, giving Dayton a 4-0 advantage over the Bonnies.

The Flyers struck again in the seventh with a sacrifice fly by junior Greg Rhude which put UD up five runs.

Starting pitcher Charlie Dant held the St. Bonaventure offense in check through the first seven innings, not allowing a single hit or walk in the span. In the previous two games, the Bonnies had collected 23 runs and 31 total hits.

Dayton did not require any more runs in the contest and set the SBU side down in order in the ninth to take a 5-1 victory.

Dant (4-5) was unstoppable on the mound, tossing seven no-hit innings to start the game. The only base runner the sophomore righty allowed through seven innings was on an error in the first inning. St. Bonaventure broke up the no-hitter and the shutout in the eighth. Dant finished with just one run allowed on two hits while striking out a career-high 10 batters and walking one.

The defense had an outstanding day behind Dant, but the offense for UD had one of its best games of the weekend with 12 hits from eight different Flyers. Duggan led the way with two RBI and a 3-for-3 outing. Plasencia chipped in two RBI and Huesman had two hits and two runs scored.

The Flyers (19-22, 10-8 A-10) will return to action next weekend for a three-game series at Saint Louis.
