Final Results

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Dayton women's track and field team took fifth-place overall on Sunday to finish up the 2014 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The Flyers recorded a total of 86.50 points in 45 events, putting them in fifth-place overall. George Mason took the 2014 title with 164 points, followed by Duquesne, VCU, and Rhode Island. Dayton was 10 points clear of sixth-place Saint Louis and Massachusetts.

Head coach Jason Francis discussed the Dayton effort.

"Day two of the Atlantic 10 Championships did not produce any conference champions, however we did set the school record in the heptathlon," Francis stated. "We were faced with some adversity this weekend which the women were able to overcome. The team did a great job competing all weekend."

Sunday completed a successful weekend overall for the Flyers with more girls getting on the podium to add to Saturday's list.

Katy Garcia reached the podium in the heptathlon, finishing third with a school-record 4608 points. She set personal bests in multiple events, including the high jump, shot put, 200m and long jump. Rebecca Maj took eighth in the heptathlon and set new PR's in the high jump and javelin as well. Adria Butler achieved personal bests in the high jump and 200m.

In the 1500m event, Nicole Cargill finished just off the podium in fourth with a time of 4:33.32.

Maddi Schmidt took eighth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.63.

Paige Yaeger finished eighth as well in the 400m hurdles, posting a time of 1:05.40.

In the 5000m finals, Katie Ollier recorded a time of 17:51.11, good enough for 11^th-place out of 25 competitors.  Mary List finished in 18^th while Megan Collins was right behind her in 19^th.

The Dayton "A" 4x100m relay team posted a time of 47.82, taking fifth overall in the event. The 4x800m squad finished ninth with a time of 9:27.41.

In the field events, Miranda Nelson finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 13.02m while Aly Weeman took eighth in the discus with a mark of 39.35m.

Maddi Schmidt also added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump to her day, hitting a distance of 11.54m.

The Flyers will send student-athletes to the Louisville Twilight on May 16 for another chance to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Round.
