PITTSBURGH TAKES DOWN VOLLEYBALL, 3-0, AT HAMPTON INN INVITE

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The University of Dayton volleyball team dropped its second contest of the Bowling Green Hampton Inn Invitational, 3-0 (21-25, 14-25, 12-25), to Pittsburgh Saturday morning at BGSU's Stroh Center. The Flyers will return to the court this evening to square off against Middle Tennessee in the team's nightcap at 5:30 p.m.

For the Flyers, junior Alaina Turner tallied 10 kills while freshman Jane Emmenecker narrowly missed the double-double with 19 assists and nine digs. Senior Isolde Hannan hit at a blistering .429 clip with four kills and recorded four blocks, including one solo. Junior Janna Krafka passed 13 digs, just one off the match high.

The Panthers out-hit the Flyers .301 to .029 and recorded 44 kills to UD's 26.

Pittsburgh (2-0) came out swinging, jumping out to a 5-1 advantage to open the match. Dayton (1-1) battled to stay close and pulled to within one, 18-17, on the strength of a 3-0 run capped off by a kill from freshman Jessica Sloan. The Flyers found themselves on the short end of a 24-21 set-point deficit and the Panthers picked up the 25-21 first set win to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Dayton picked up the first two points of the second set and the game remained close through the early going with five ties, including at 7-7. The Panthers went ahead on a Flyer attacking error and never gave up the lead. A late-set 7-0 run for Pitt put the frame out of reach for UD and the Panthers held on for a 24-14 win and held a 2-0 match advantage heading into set three.

The Panthers scored three straight points to start the third frame but the Flyers rallied to pull within one, 4-3, after back-to-back Pitt attacking errors. A 3-0 spurt from Pittsburgh put the Panthers ahead for good and Pitt led by as many as 13 during the set. With the 25-12 set win, Pittsburgh claimed the match, 3-0.

For Pitt, Jessica Wynn recorded a match-high 12 kills while the Panthers' primary setter Lindsey Zitzke tallied 21 assists.
