The University of Dayton men's soccer team hosts the 2014 Dayton Flyer Classic on Friday and Sunday, Sept. 5 and 7th. A neutral contest of Northern Kentucky and Detroit will open the weekend at 5 p.m. Friday, followed by the host Flyers squaring off against High Point at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, NKU and High Point will meet at 11 a.m. with Dayton and Detroit finishing off the weekend at 2 p.m. The award ceremony will take place upon the completion of the final contest.

Friday night will be Red Out Rally as fans are invited to wearing their Dayton red to the night cap. Sunday, body paint will be passed out to fans so they can decorate themselves in the Red and Blue of Dayton.

THE SERIES
The Flyers will meet High Point for the first time in school history on Friday. Dayton then faces Detroit in the seventh match-up all time. The Flyers are 4-1-1 against Detroit in the series, but tied the Titans in their last meeting in 1996, 2-2.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
HIGH POINT

The Panthers of High Point enter the weekend with an 0-1 record overall and will meet the Flyers Friday night at Baujan Field. HPU is under the direction of eighth-year Head Coach Dustin Fonder. Coach Fonder is the all-time leader in overall wins, conference wins, and wins in a season at High Point. Junior goalkeeper Kody Palmer leads the team between the posts after starting 14 games for the Panthers a year ago and earning Freshman All-American honors in 2012. Ebe Kudolo and Mamadee Nyepon anchor the attack with five combined shots in the season opener. High Point is a younger squad with just five seniors on the roster and 18 underclassmen.

DETROIT
Detroit is the only team heading into the Flyer Classic with a win under its belt this season. The Titans will take on Northern Kentucky Friday before finishing off the weekend with Dayton on Sunday. Head Coach Nicholas Deren is in his fifth season as the man in charge after spending six yeas as the top assistant at Detroit. His squad is made up of nine upperclassmen and numerous talented youngsters. Nathan Steinwasher made three saves in the season-opening victory while playing all 90+ minutes. Offensively, Matt DeVries and Adam Clauss each recorded their first goals of the season with Matt Ybarra providing the assist on DeVries'.

LAST OUTING
Dayton fell to Loyola Chicago this past Saturday on the road by a final score of 2-0. The Ramblers avenged their 4-1 drubbing by the Flyers last season with goals from John Cappuccitti and Elliot Collier.  Froschauer had a pair of saves in the contest.

High Point suffered a 2-0 defeat as well, falling to UNC Wilmington in the Panthers home and season opener on Friday. A goal in each half by the Seahawks sent HPU to 0-1 to start the year.

Detroit was victorious in its season opener, 2-1 over in-state foe Western Michigan. DeVries and Clauss provided a pair of second half goals with Clauss' game-winner coming fromt he penalty spot in the first minute of overtime.

FLYER SUCCESS
The Dayton men's program has an overall record of 451-386-71 and three NCAA tournament appearances in its history. The Flyers are also 112-77-19 in the Atlantic 10 Conference and have six conference titles between the regular season and league tournament.

DAYTON PICKED 4TH IN A-10
The Atlantic 10 Conference released their preseason poll and tabbed the Flyers to finish fourth in the league behind  2013 regular season champions Saint Louis, 2013 tournament champions George Mason, and NCAA Tournament participant VCU. Dayton was picked ahead of A-10 newcomers Davidson, Duquesne, and La Salle, who eliminated the Flyers from the A-10 tournament last season.

A-10 PRESEASON HONORS
Before the 2014 season, Amankona was named the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Preseason team while freshmen Dillon Nino and Lance Gaspar were named to the All-Rookie Preseason team.

PRESEASON CSM AWARDS
College Sports Madness also released their preseason All-A-10 teams and recognized a couple of Flyers ahead of 2014. Freshman Nick Hagenkord was picked as the Freshman of the Year, coming off his Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year finalist honor. Enstone was named First Team All-Conference and Froschauer was named Second Team All-Conference as well.

INTERNATIONAL FLAIR
The Dayton program has been known to recruit well outside of the U.S. and this year's team is no different. The Flyers have two student athletes from England, three from Ghana, one from Costa Rica, one from Jamaica, one from Canada, and one from the Netherlands, totaling nine international players. This is coming off the 2013 season in which the Flyers had 11 players from overseas.

FANTASTIC FRESHMEN
Dayton's squad is young as far as age is concerned  with 15 freshmen making up the team. The Flyers do have faith in this class though as it is made up of an NSCAA All-American, eight US Soccer Academy participants, and a U16 USSDA National Champion. Two other players are also four-star rated recruits. The Dayton coaching staff will not be shy in letting these freshmen get on the field.

LARA RECOGNIZED AS TOP ASSISTANT
Dayton Assistant Coach Kiki Lara was honored last season as the Mid-Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year. Lara is in his sixth year with the program and joined the Flyers after playing for Coach Currier at Incarnate Word.

CURRIER'S IMPACT
The head coach of the Flyers has had success at every place he has coached. Dennis Currier is in his 10th year at Dayton and holds a career record of 281-105-36 in 21 seasons and a 93-56-24 record with the Flyers. His career winning percentage of .710 ranks fifth in the nation amongst active coaches, ahead of programs like Maryland, Stanford, UCLA, and Virginia.

UP NEXT
The Flyers will head back out on the road for the next four contests, starting with the UAB Tournament in Alabama. Dayton has a neutral contest with Jacksonville on Sept. 12 before battling the host Blazers Sunday, Sept 14.
