St. Louis – University of Dayton senior placekicker
William Will was named Pioneer Football League Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Dayton's come-from-behind 27-24 exciting win over Butler on Saturday.
Will accounted for a third of Dayton 27 points, but he also negated a big Butler weapon with his kickoffs.
The Mokena, Ill. Native was perfect on his placements (3-3 on PAT's, 2-2 on FG's). He kicked his field goals on back-to-back possessions midway through the second half – a 44-yarder late in the third period, and a 28-yarder early in the fourth – to pull the Flyers within four points, 24-20.
Less apparent on the stat sheet but also very important was the job he did on kickoffs. Butler came into the game averaging 26.9 yards a kickoff return, the best in the PFL. Of Will's six kickoffs, only two were returned for an average of 18.5 yards. The other four were touchbacks.
On the season, Will is the PFL's leading scorer with 61 points (8.7 per game). He is second in FCS football n field goals per game (1.86). He is 22-of-22 in point afters, and 13-of 16 in field goals.
A member of the Fred Mitchell Award Watch (non FCS kicker) list for the second straight year, Will is seventh in career scoring at Dayton with 226 career points. He is 23 of 28 from between 30 and 49 yards in his career.
Dayton is 7-0 on the year and alone in first place with a 4-0 record. UD is one of five FCS teams who are still undefeated in 2015. The Flyers are 7-0 for the first time since 2001.
UD hosts Jacksonville, who is 6-1 on the season, this Saturday, Oct. 31. Game time is 1 p.m. ET.
