MEN'S SOCCER TAKES ON SAINT LOUIS WEDNESDAY

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will head out on the road for the one of the toughest contests of the season as the Flyers take on Atlantic 10 foe Saint Louis at 8 p.m. ET at Hermann Stadium.

SCOUTING DAYTON
Dayton enters the week with a 6-4-1 record overall and a 1-0-0 conference mark after defeating Duquesne in the A-10 opener.  The Flyers are 3-2-1 in road games this season and 2-1-1 in the past four away contests. Wednesday's game will be another important game as head coach Dennis Currier hopes to guide his squad to the A-10 Tournament for the fourth straight year.

The Flyers are averaging 2.09 goals per game and holding opponents to a 1.18 mark. Dayton is out-shooting opposing teams 16.6-11.4 and has 70 corners compared to the 59 they have allowed.

Senior Amass Amankona has been the main offensive threat, scoring six times and assisting three times. Fellow senior Maik Schoonderwoerd has added four goals and four assists while junior James Haupt has chipped in four goals. Junior goalkeeper Justin Saliba has a 1.08 goals against average, which is second in the A-10, to go with a .667 save percentage and three shutouts.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
SAINT LOUIS

The Billikens are 4-3-1 this year and 2-2 at Hermann Stadium. Saint Louis was projected to win the Atlantic 10 in the preseason poll and has a 0-0-1 record thus far in the early stages of conference play. The Billikens have been in the national rankings throughout the season before falling out this week, reaching as high as No. 14.

As a team, Saint Louis is scoring at a rate of 1.88 goals each game and giving up 1.38 goals to opponents. The Billikens have a .565 shots on goal percentage and 85 attempts on the season.

Individually, senior Vince Cicciarelli has team highs in points (10) and goals (4) to go with two assists. Junior Jair Minors has added three goals while senior David Graydon and junior Joe Saad both have three assists to lead the team.

The Billikens have just as much of an international presence as the Flyers with 10 players from outside the United States, including student-athletes from Germany, Serbia, France, England, Senegal, Bermuda, and Ireland.

THE SERIES
The Flyers and Billikens have met 19 times in the series history with Saint Louis taking 15 of those meetings. The last time the two teams faced off was last season in Dayton, ending in a 2-2 tie. Haupt and Amankona were on the scoresheet in that game for UD.

LAST OUTING
Dayton opened the Atlantic 10 season with a hard-fought, comeback victory at Duquesne Saturday, 2-1. Haupt and senior Carlos Sendin provided second-half goals to lead the Flyers to 1-0 in conference play, including Sendin's game-winner in the 89th minute.

Saint Louis began its conference season on the road at reigning champion Rhode Island and left with a 1-1 draw in double overtime. Faik Hajderovic scored in the 50th minute to put the Billikens on top, but SLU was unable to hold on to the win, allowing the equalizer in the 70th minute.

LEADING THE WAY
The Flyers rank first in the Atlantic 10 in multiple categories. Dayton is first in the league in shots (16.64), points (6.09), goals (2.09), assists (1.91), and corner kicks (6.36). Individually, Schoonderwoerd leads the conference in shots (27) and assists (4) while Amankona leads in points (15) and goals (6). Saliba is also tied for the league lead in shutouts (3).

OFFENSIVE POWERHOUSE
The Flyers have been a force on the offensive side of the ball this season, ranking in the Top 15 nationally in numerous statistical categories. Dayton currently ranks seventh in goals and seventh in points while ranking 11th in shots per game and 13th in total assists.

DAYTON PICKED 6TH IN A-10
The Atlantic 10 Conference released its preseason poll and tabbed the Flyers to finish sixth in the league. Dayton finished last season as the No. 6 seed in the A-10 Tournament and was picked to repeat that feat this year. Saint Louis was chosen as the favorite going into 2015, followed by reigning conference champion Rhode Island, George Mason, and VCU. Davidson was picked to finish just ahead of Dayton.

A-10 PRESEASON HONORS
Four flyers were recognized by the A-10 as well in the preseason release. Senior Amass Amankona, junior James Haupt, and junior Lalas Abubakar were all named to the First Team All-Conference Preseason squad while freshman Kennedy Nwabia was named to the All-Rookie Team.

INTERNATIONAL FLAIR
The Dayton program has been known to recruit well outside of the U.S. and this year's team is no different. The Flyers have three student-athletes from Ghana, one from Costa Rica, one from Denmark, one from Spain, one from Nigeria, one from Gambia, and one from the Netherlands, totaling nine international players. This is coming off the 2014 and 2013 seasons in which the Flyers had nine and 11 international players respectively.

UP NEXT
The Flyers will return home after 17 days on the road and host Saint Joseph's (3-7-1, 1-0-0) at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Baujan Field.
