DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's basketball team defeated Gannon University Friday night in an exhibition game, 109-67.
The Flyers and Gannon squared off in the first action of the season for either team with Dayton defending its home court in front of 1,064 Flyer Faithful.
GAME BREAKDOWN• The Flyers built an early lead in the first half thanks to 17 forced turnovers, then slowly built a double-digit lead thanks to 50 points in the paint in a 109-67 victory over Gannon Friday.
• Gannon struggled against Dayton's superior size, which resulted in 10 steals and six blocked shots by the Flyers. Gannon countered shooting 47.8% from three, which was good enough to put them behind 27-19 after the first quarter. But, it was not enough to keep up with the Flyers' 50 points in the paint, which gave the Flyers a 53-32 lead at half.
• The Flyers' fast pace put the game away in the second half, with 29 fast break points. A balanced scoring attack with all eleven Flyers entering the scoring column gave Dayton over 100 points in the contest, stifling any comeback Gannon could mount. • The Flyers are now 112-11 when scoring 70 points or more in the last seven seasons.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS• All eleven Flyers who played entered the scoring column, with four Flyers (Dean, Cornelie-Sigmudova, Austria, and Grant-Allen) scoring in double digits.
• Kelly Austria tied a career high with 21 points on the night, shooting 90% from the field.

Saicha Grant-Allen recorded a career high 13 rebounds, besting her previous career high of 12 against Central Michigan in the 2013-14 season.
• Cornelie anchored the Flyers defense, accounting for five of the team's six blocks.

Abby Duffy all had their first field goals with the Flyers, with Parkinson leading the way with 9 points.
• Dayton dominated the open court with 29 fast break points to Gannon's two.
• Dayton had 10 steals in the contest, which helped lead to 31 turnovers by Gannon.
• The Flyers had a significant advantage in bench scoring, with 35 points to Gannon's 17.
• The Flyers won the rebounding battle 46-36, 19 of which were offensive rebounds that led to 28 second chance points.
• Twenty-eight of Dayton's 82 field goals were assisted on, influencing the Flyers' 50% field goal percentage.
KEY STAT• 44 - The Flyers scored 44 points off Gannon turnovers, compared to only 6 points off turnovers by Gannon.
