NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Three University of Dayton men's basketball players – senior
Jordan Sibert, junior
Dyshawn Pierre and sophomore
Kendall Pollard – were recognized when the Atlantic 10 Conference announced its 2015 award winners.
Sibert was named First Team All-Atlantic 10, Pierre Second Team All A-10, and Pollard was the winner of the Chris Daniels Most Improved Player Award.
Sibert, the team's only senior, leads the Flyers in scoring (16.6), minutes (34.4),three pointers (71) FT% (.789, 120-152) and steals (49). He is also third on the team in rebounding (3.5). Early in the year, the Cincinnati Princeton High School product was named to the Puerto Rico Tip-Off All-Tournament Team and was named an Atlantic 10 Conference Player twice during league play.
In A-10 action, he was second in the conference in scoring (17.3) and steals (2.1), fourth in three-pointers (2.5), seventh in minutes (34.9) and is in the top 15 in FG%, 3-pt. FG%, and FT%.
Sibert is the sixth Flyer to be named First Team All-Atlantic 10. The others are Ryan Perryman (1998), Mark Ashman (2000), Keith Waleskowski (2004), Brian Roberts (2008) and Chris Wright (2010).
Sibert is the 25th Dayton player to earn All-Atlantic 10 honors since the Flyers joined the A-10 in 1995-96.
Pierre, the team's only three-year player, is Dayton's top rebounder (8.1) and second-leading scorer (13.0). He is also second in assists (2.9) and third in blocked shots (11). In A-10 action, the Whitby, Ontario native is first tied for third in rebounding (9.4), ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7), He is one of two players in the Atlantic 10 who are in the top 15 in scoring, rebounding and assists in conference play.
He was also named A-10 Player of the week twice in the league season.
Pollard, a Chicago Simeon graduate, is the third UD player to be named the A-10's Chris Daniels Most Improved Player Award winner. Coby Turner (a teammate of Daniels) was selected in 1998), and Chris Johnson was chosen in 2010.
After averaging 1.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, 0.3 blocks and 0.3 assists a game last season in conference play, Pollard has bumped up his game across the board to 13.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 1.1 assists a game this season. He has improved his free throw percentage 30 points, and leads the A-10 in free throw rate. Pollard also ranks second in the A-10 in FG% in league play (.600, 87-145).
The Daniels Award is presented in memory of Flyer center Chris Daniels, who died due to an undetected heart ailment during his senior season on Feb. 8, 1996.
UD finished the regular season 23-7 overall and 13-5 in conference play, 10-6 in the Atlantic 10. Dayton will meet either St. Bonaventure or Saint Joseph's Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET in the first round of the A-10 tournament, which will be played in Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
