DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will play its first home game of the 2015 season on Wednesday when the Flyers host Cleveland State at 7 p.m. ET at Baujan Field.
Dayton returns home with a 1-1 record after splitting its games at the JMU Tournament this past weekend in Harrisonburg, Va. The Flyers opened the season with a 2-1 loss vs Radford on Friday before picking up a 1-0 victory over the host Dukes on Sunday.
The Flyers are averaging 11 shots per game and have a .500 shots on goal percentage. Defensively, Dayton is holding opponents to a .391 shots on goal percentage. Both the Flyers and opponents are averaging 1.00 goals per game. Senior
Maik Schoonderwoerd is the only player to score this season to go with his perfect 1.000 shots on goal percentage (3-for-3). Junior goalkeeper
Justin Saliba has seven saves and a .778 save percentage through two games.
THE SERIESThe Flyers have faced the Vikings five times in school history with Cleveland State winning all five meetings. The most recent match-up was back in 1982 when Dayton fell 3-0.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
CLEVELAND STATEThe Vikings are 0-1 on the year after suffering a defeat in their season opener against Robert Morris. That came after a productive preseason in which Cleveland State drew its matches against Mercyhurst (2-2) and St. Francis (0-0). Head coach Ali Kazemaini is in his 10th season at the helm and is hoping to guide the Vikings back to success after finishing 2014 with a 6-12-1 record and a No. 157 RPI ranking.
After one game, Cleveland State is averaging 10 shots per game with a .500 shots on goal percentage. Junior Sergio Manesio has the only goal for the Vikings in the early stages of the campaign, scoring on a penalty kick. Junior Nick Ciraldo has two saves and a .333 save percentage after allowing four goals in the season opener.
The Cleveland State roster is made up of six seniors and 20 freshmen and sophomores. The Vikings also bring players from around the world with student-athletes from Jamaica, Brazil, England, Egypt, Spain, Serbia, and Nicaragua.

Cleveland State opened its season last Sunday with a 4-1 loss to Robert Morris at home. A first-half penalty kick put the Vikings in a 1-0 hole before two more second-half goals put the game out of reach for Cleveland State. Junior Sergio Manesio was able to score a penalty kick in the 80th minute to put the Vikings on the board, but it was not enough for the comeback.
LEADING THE WAYThe Flyers rank fourth in the Atlantic 10 in shots, fifth in goals against average, third in saves, third in corners, and first in shutouts. Individually, junior
Tommy Harr ranks third in shots while Frasca is third in assists. Saliba is also fifth in goals against average and third in saves.
NATIONAL RANKINGSDayton is also ranked in the Top 50 in the nation as well. As a team, the Flyesr are 41st in shutout percentage. Individually, Schoonderwoerd in third in the country in game-winning goals while Frasca is 27th in assists.
