#7-SEEDED FLYERS OPEN A-10 CHAMPIONSHIP VS. SAINT LOUIS

Flyers and Billikens Face Off In Opening Game Atlantic 10 Championship

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The University of Dayton earned the No. 7 seed in the 2016 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship. The eight-team, three-round championship begins Thursday, Nov. 3 at Rhode Island's Soccer Complex. 

The Flyers will play in the opening game of the championship Thursday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. ET against Saint Louis (7-1-2, 23 points), seeded second and ranked third in the Mid-Atlantic Region with a 14-3-2 overall record. The Flyers defeated Massachusetts Sunday and had 14 points to earn the seventh seed, with a 4-4-2 conference record and a 6-9-3 overall mark. UD and SLU faced off in the conference opener on Sept. 29 at Baujan Field and fought to a 1-1 double overtime tie.

Tickets for the championship will be available at the stadium. The first two rounds will be streamed for free on the A-10 Network, while Sunday's Championship will air on the American Sports Network (ASN). 

Saint Joseph's women's soccer went undefeated to clinch the Atlantic 10 regular season title and the top seed for the tournament. 
 
The Hawks, ranked first in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region, finished at 9-0-1 with 28 points in conference play, and 16-1-2 overall. They will face No. 8 Rhode Island at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Rams had 12 points at 3-4-3 in league play and were tied with Richmond and VCU for the final spot in the championship. Rhody earned the bid based on head-to-head results with common conference opponents. URI is 6-7-5 overall.
 
Defending champion Duquesne is seeded third with 22 points and a 7-2-1 A-10 record. The Dukes, who are 11-5-3 overall, won Sunday with a dramatic double-overtime game-winning goal with four seconds left to secure the seed. Duquesne will play sixth-seeded George Washington at 2 p.m. on Thursday. The Colonials, last year's regular season champion, are 4-3-3 in league play with 15 points, and 10-6-3 overall.
 
George Mason is seeded fourth with 19 points at 6-3-1 in A-10 games and 12-6-1 overall. The Patriots win a tiebreaker with Fordham, their quarterfinal opponent. No. 5 Fordham also had 19 points with a 5-1-4 conference record and a 10-4-5 overall mark. The tiebreaker favoring Mason was based on head-to-head results with common conference opponents. The two teams played to a draw Sunday, and will meet again Thursday in the final game of the night, with kick-off at 8 p.m.
 
The winner of the Saint Joseph's/Rhode Island and George Mason/Fordham games will meet in Friday's semifinal round at game at 8 p.m. The first semifinal match, which begins at 5 p.m., which feature the winners of Saint Louis/Dayton and Duquesne/George Washington matches.

The championship final will be played Sunday at noon on ASN. The championship winner will earn the A-10's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
