#UDWBB OPENS REGULAR SEASON SUNDAY VS QUINNIPIAC

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's basketball team will open the 2016-17 regular season on Sunday when the Flyers host Quinnipiac at 2 p.m. ET at UD Arena.

ABOUT THE FLYERS
Dayton (14-15, 7-9 A-10) finished the 2015-16 season with its ninth consecutive postseason appearance by making a trip to the WNIT. The Flyers fell to Western Kentucky, ending the year with the first losing season since 2006-07. Head coach Shauna Green is in her first season in charge of the program.

SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
Quinnipiac is coming off a 25-9 season last year and and a trip to the Second Round of the WNIT before losing to Temple. Despite winning the conference regular season title, the Bobcats advanced to the MAAC Tournament Championship, but suffered a hard-fought loss to Iona. QU scored at a rate of 67.5 points per game and held opposing teams to 58.7 points each contest.

The Bobcats face Florida Gulf Coast on Friday to open the season before traveling to Dayton Sunday. Quinnipiac returns four starters, but a young team, led by sophomore forward Paula Strautmane. The Latvia native averaged 8.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game last season.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton defeated Grand Valley State last Sunday, 74-48 in an exhibition contest. The Flyers shot 43.9% from the floor and held the Lakers to 23.6%.

THE SERIES
The Flyers and Bobcats have met just one time in program history, back on Nov. 21, 1998. UD won the lone meeting 66-44 in Dayton, Ohio.

NEW LEADER
Shauna Green was hired as the new Dayton women's basketball head coach on Sept. 11, 2016. She takes over for former head coach Jim Jabir, who was at the helm of the Flyers for 13 seasons. Green served as an assistant on Coach Jabir's staff at Dayton from 2012-15. In 2015-16, Green was an assistant on Joe McKeown's staff at Northwestern. She is in her third season as a collegiate head coach after having previously led Loras College.

DAYTON IN THE WNIT
Last season marked Dayton's fourth overall appearance in the Women's National Invitation Tournament. The Flyers have previously appeared in the post-season tournament in 2000, 2008 and 2009. UD's only WNIT win came against Oakland on March 19, 2009, a 70-55 victory in Rochester, Mich.

LAST SEASON'S ROOKIE OF THE YEAR GOES TO DAYTON
In voting among league head coaches, sophomore Lauren Cannatelli earned A-10 Rookie of the Year honors while also being named to the All-Rookie Team. Another honoree in post-season awards was junior Jenna Burdette, named to the A-10 All-Conference Third Team.

FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 61 of its last 76 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.803), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.

As a team, the Flyers have found much success from the free throw line, shooting the top four single season percentages in the last five seasons, including a school record .764 in 2013-14.

BURDETTE IN THE A-10
Averaging a team-best .404 three-point field goal percentage, junior Jenna Burdette ranked first in the Atlantic 10 last season. She was also ranked among the best in the league in numerous categories: fifth with 4.8 apg., fifth with an .813 free-throw percentage, 10th with a 1.4 assist/turnover ratio, 15th with 1.4 three-point field goals per game and 25th with 11.2 ppg.

FIRST HALF SUCCESS=SECOND HALF VICTORY
Dayton was 11-3 last season when leading at halftime. The Flyers were 3-12 when either trailing at the half or tied at halftime.

70'S THE MAGIC NUMBER
Since the 2009-10 season, Dayton is 121-13 (.903) when scoring 70 or more points, including 10-2 in 2015-16. During the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, the Flyers only lost one game per season when scoring at least 70 points, and dropped only two games in 2009-10 when reaching that mark.

THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 476 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.

SPEAKING OF THREES...
Cincinnati native sophomore Lauren Cannatelli made a team-best 62 three-point baskets last season which is a new program record among Flyer freshmen. Former Flyer Justine Raterman sank 47 three-pointers her first year on the team (2008-09). Cannatelli's 36.0 three-point field-goal percentage (62-172) is the fifth-best average by a UD freshman. Additionally, Cannatelli's 62 made three-point baskets ranked tied for fifth all-time for treys made in a season.

SHE DISHES IT OUT
Junior Jenna Burdette recorded her first career double-double against Duquesne on Feb. 21 with a career-high 14 assists and a career-high-tying 10 rebounds. The 14 assists tied the program record for most in a single game. Other former Flyers that tallied 14 assists in one game were Stefanie Miller (11/21/03 vs. Boise State) and Pam Palmer (1/3/82 vs. Ohio State).

WE'VE GOT AN AUDIENCE
With a crowd of 10,159 at UD Arena for Dayton's last season opener against Yale on Nov. 13, the Flyers boasted the seventh-most attended game last season. The record crowd was due to the overwhelming success of UD's annual School Day game, a chance for local school-aged children to take a field trip with the Flyers. With a home attendance average of 2,890, Dayton ranked 39th out of 349 DI programs.

ATLANTIC 10 FORMAT
Despite its name, the Atlantic 10 conference consists of 14 member schools competing under one division in women's basketball. Each team will play a 16-game conference slate this season, including three home-and-away series. Dayton will play two games against Duquesne, George Washington and Saint Louis and one against the remaining field during league action.

THE NEW AND IMPROVED 2017 ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2017 A-10 Championship will feature a new, enhanced format, with six first-round games being played on campus sites before heading to Richmond, Friday through Sunday, for the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship final games. The top two championship seeds will receive a bye, with the remainder of the field facing off in games hosted by seeds 3-8 for the first round. The first round will take place on the Saturday and Sunday prior to the weekend of the quarterfinals, semifinals and final. In 2017 the first round will be Feb. 25-26 with the three final rounds being played March 3-5.

ELIGIBLE THIS SEASON
The Flyers have a familiar face making her debut this season in redshirt junior Alex Harris, a 6-3 forward is originally from Lorain, Ohio. She came to UD from Penn State, where she appeared in 47 career games for the Nittany Lions.

GRADUATION SUCCESS RATE
As announced by the NCAA on Nov. 4, 2015, Dayton's overall Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 95 tied UD for the 25th-highest rating in the nation. This year's score of 95 is tied with last year's score for the department's second-highest rate since the inception of the GSR reporting system in 2005.  Over the 11 years the GSR has been compiled, the Flyers have never rated below a 94 and have ranked 27th or better nationally

NATIONAL TEAM EXPERIENCE
Three Flyers have experience playing for their respective national teams.
• Sophomore Maddy Dennis was a member of the 2015 U-19 Australian National Team that won a bronze medal at the 2015 U-19 FIBA World Championship. She was also a member of the 2013 and 2014 U-17 Australian National Team.
• Senior Saicha Grant-Allen most recently was a member of Canada's Senior B Women's Basketball National Team that claimed the 36th Annual William Jones Cup in Taipei, Taiwan, during the summer of 2014.
• Senior Andrijana Cvitkovic played for the Croatian U18 National Team during the summer of 2012.

POSTSEASON EXPECTATION
