OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – The University of Dayton women's rowing team had four boats compete at the 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Regatta.

The V8+ medaled by taking third place in the grand final in a time of 6:56.3, edging out Jacksonville by three seconds to make the medal stand. The Flyers finished second in their semifinal race. The UD V8+ boat is made up of Patricia Santoni (coxswain), Kayla Contardi, Kaleigh Barkaszi, Allie Rogers, Erin Mohney, Chloe Hollinden, Kristen Hackel, Sarah Byrd and Rosie Perez. 

The V4+ took first place in the small final in a time of 8:30.09, beating out Tampa and Charleston.

The N8+ and N4+ also competed at SIRA.

"It was nice to race in warm Tennessee. The boats are starting to find some speed," said Head Coach Mike Wenker. "The varsity eight improved each time out on the race course.  The varsity four put together a good race in the final. 

"The novice are starting to figure a few things on the water," he added. "We have two weeks to prepare for the Atlantic 10 Rowing Championships."
